Been kind of quiet on the custom front. I've been putting what little time I've had into this guy, which is going to be my brother's Christmas present.
He's not an action figure guy, and I'm not a big Mad Max guy, so hopefully it all balances. He does appreciate good art though, so hopefully this is that. I wanted to make this really modular so he could be configured in some of the different looks in the movie, but also fairly easy to change out since my brother isn't use to fiddling with this kind of stuff. At one point I had decided to make two complete figures. But I think I figured it out in the end. Since there's still time to Christmas, I'm open to suggestions for improvement for anyone who might have a strong Fury Road eye. There are limitations to what I can accomplish, of course, but I'm open. Update: cut a glove cuff off of an MTF tshirt forearm (a broken one) and painted it to simulate the parachord. It's also removable, so can be switched to his jacketed arm, as well. And took an angle to display the shoulder pad on his jacket.

i spent a ridiculous amount of time gathering everything to make a mad max costume. i have leathers for mad max, road warrior, and even bits to turn the road warrior into the fury road costume. one of my two south african m83 vests still smells like mosquito repellant. i only ever wore my mad max get up, but i'd gained some weight and i looked like a turtle emerging it's head from the jacket. (hell my user name is the dark one 508, and it's the call sign 508 on the side of mad max's mfp interceptor. adn the dark one is for a character who was his riding partner they decided not to put in the movie but left the name on max's yellow mfp interceptor anyway. i think it's fitting to call max that.)
so your figure: the first thing i looked at were the boots. you have them. the second thing was the battle vest. you have it attached to the jacket. the third thing i looked at was the right arm sleeve. you have it on the removeable arm. what i didnt see: the football shoulder pad. not sure if this is an angle thing or what. the little parachord bracelet he wears on his right hand. i remember this being a big deal in the production of the movie and making replica costumes because it was actually hardy's and he was really into wearing it at the time. plus it made sense for max to wear one. here's some info on the battlevest (though it looks like everything in 4" scale is there) https://www.madmaxcostumes.com/ripsaw-imperator-vest/ you'll even see the shoulder pad on the jacket there. one super nitpick about not just your custom but the movie, is max wore a red shop rag on his right arm. they got rid of the rag in fury road but the little ripped and fashioned button flap is there. you may want to toss that little detail on because like everything with max everything he has on him and in his car has a purpose; and i always loved that about that character. i figure if he lost that rag he'd try to find a new one to do the same job that one did; it's not like he was short on rags anyway looking at the interceptor's wheels. the "what i didnt see" and "super nitpicks", with the exception of the shoulder pad are just things i pointed out. if any changes need to be made, i'd say definitely add the shoulder pad if there isnt one there. |

So, he has the shoulder pad. I'll throw up a photo with that angle. The parachord is something I just couldn't figure out in a way I liked- partly because the sleeve comes all the way to his hand, as to where there's a little "slack" on the actual costume. And as I write this, an idea has dawned in me. The rag was a complete blind spot. I'm look into that

This is fire. One of your best .
+1 on the painted face. Not many can pull that off especially in 1/18 scale.

First, i def appreciate you taking the time to lay all that out.

I'm look into that I didn't see the rag in any reference photos for fury road but they kept the little strap he would button it into. |
