I notice that adult toy collectors tend to be hyper detail-oriented and dig cataloging and categorizing. I wonder if we're all on the spectrum.

I just use the term 50th now, because it’s fairly all encompassing and the most recent modern iteration.

Hasbro may use (Chuckles Modern Era) figure or just the head for Duke in this Retro line...

I never saw that one at Toysrus and I don't even know it existed... All this time I was thinking that the retro figure is based on the Renegades Storm Shadow.

I wasn't collecting at the time, but weren't some of these exclusive to BBTS? I definitely got my copy of it from a case that BBTS had discounted.

I mean, technically he is. It's a reissue of that figure. Pretty sure that pack was made and released because both of those figures' original versions were selling for $60+ each back then, which is why I picked up that two-pack up.

The limitation I see with just saying "50th" is when, for example, the 25th Anniversary Baroness happened to be lazily rereleased in the 50th but has none of the construction and sculpt improvements seen in figures that were actually built fresh in the 30th/50th lines.
But I realize that a lot of people like that Baroness so if it helps just think of MASS device Duke. Are we really going to refer to that as a "50th" figure if it shows up in this line? It was re-used in the 50th after all. It's not a distinction without a difference or just stubborn semantics, it's a delineation between articulation technologies and sculpt detail. Some elements of the latest and greatest reach back to Retaliation or 30th or whatever, so there's no clean break to make. But whatever they are, they're a departure from the 25th.

I have three of those for sale in my B/S/T thread. Is the retro line good or bad for the value of the 50th stuff?

Have you guys seen this? It is hilarious. The video itself looks like proof of life footage following a kidnapping in a former Soviet bloc country. The look on his face is just too precious. This dude is once again incensed that Hasbro made some decisions and didn’t get his authorization. He ends it with a little quip about how anyone who buys the line is an idiot and is throwing their money away. |
