Very sad. 79 isn't 'old', and how someone can die of pneumonia in this day and age is beyond me.
While not a big 'star', Edward Woodward was an excellent character actor with a huge CV - How can anyone who saw it forget his fate in THE WICKER MAN. But as I'm English, Edward Woodward will always be "Callan" to me. Don't know if this show was widespread in the US, but it was a very gritty, dark and often disturbing look at the 'secret services' that was way ahead of it's time. Still waiting for a DVD release. Edward Woodward was never better in that series... Of course, he also had his 'fun' moments, and as a fan of Morcambe & Wise it was always great to see him turn up on their show sending himself up - He even sang a 'serious' song once and did a rather good job too.

The Equalizer was a GREAT show. One of the best of the 80's, in my opinion. I hope Mr. Woodward finds peace; I hope his family finds comfort, and I sincerely hope they release the rest of the seasons of The Equalizer on DVD soon.

Even we saw Equalizer...and it was really really popular. The last time i saw him in a movie, it was on "Hot Fuzz". Hilarious. R.I.P Edward, you'll be missed.

It's been so long since I saw that show. All I remember is him pwning some tough-lookin' bastard with a rolled up magazine, and hoping I could be half as badass as that when I have grey hair. Might have to rent he series and live in nostalgia-land for awhile.

I remember watching Equalizer reruns in the mid-90s and really enjoying it. And he gave a lively and wonderful performance as the Ghost of Christmas Present in 1984's A Christmas Carol (opposite George C. Scott) that is just delightful.
A great talent who will be missed. :( |
