Most of the time, when i start a custom i first gather a bunch of parts that have at least a similar colour in case of paint scratching, and a good amount of them can be considered "finished" without paint (but i paint matching the colour anyways).
Today i managed to make my cam work, so i took some pics that might be useful as base figures to experienced customizers, and/or simple mods and kitbashes for those that simply swap parts. So, here we go. Note i didn't put any gear on them. Click the names to see what they have. EDIT: More stuff HERE (Cobra Sniper, Plague Trooper, Agent faces) First, BLACK OUT, and DTC MAJOR BLUDD V7. I really like Black out, so when i got a Viper officer i instantly thought on him. Recently knew of the DTC Bludd, and the red cloak remind me of something...give them the gear it came with the RoC figs, and they're done. Ironically both share the same torso, in vintage and RoC version :P -Black out: head: Reso duke torso/arms: Viper officer (include the vest and give him a 25th Viper googles) legs: can be anyone, but in this case i used spare parts, being upper legs from BAT and lower from Terra-Viper (they match somehow the original patterns) -Bludd: head: i don't have any Bludd, so i used Beachhead's extra head with Reso 5pk CC helmet.(need patch of course) torso: desert viper (red cloak from reso 5pk CC) Next, some mods. The pilot viper had two left legs, so i gave him a set of CG legs which match perfect. I later decided to use him as my base for a Law custom, but might still work. The CG is a simple thing, just Reso 5pk CC cloak on a CG, but i love the look. More mods, using acetone this time. Using an extra 7pk Outback torso, i "fixed" my standard Rock n Roll. Got rid of the "survival" using a drop of acetone, Reso Duke hands and that's all (i gave him the tattoos and repainted the head, but you can skip that)). The other is from spare parts. Mainly a RoC Beachead that i got rid of the crotch paint with acetone. I was going to use the torso for a Shipwreck but found a better one. Legs from a Commando SE and there's this random guy (not a clue who can this be)

Absolutely lazy. First i changed the Reso Cobra Trooper feet with Reso 5pk Duke, and gave him RoC Beachhead head. Now he can do for WIDE SCOPE. Then i gave Pilot Destro's hands to Bench Press, removed the RoC logo with acetone and he's BIG BRAWLER (Note he's shaved, i'm actually using that head for a Footloose). At last, Sneak Peek and Shipwreck. SP might be difficult to do, but the parts i've used can be found on other figures (tho it will require paint). Shipwreck is simply a MARS Trooper with Reso 5pk Duke legs and lower arms, and RoC Shipwreck (ignore the grey different tones, that's just the light doing weird things. They match almost exactly). -Sneak Peek: -Head: doesn't really matter as long it's big. Helmet is RoC Barrel Roll. -Torso/upper legs/upper arms: driver Cobra Trooper. Vest from Pit commando -lower legs: Wallmart RoC Tripwire. -lower arms: Reso 5pk Duke. (again, it might be difficult to find spare parts from those, but the same can be found on easier figs, and you'll have to paint -the vest too-) Most of these are going to have new paint and sculpt, but i thought they might be useful for someone as they are. Hope it helps. It would be cool to keep this a a generic thread for this, unless there's another one already. (mods, let me know)

I hope it doesn't get merged with another thread... This is sort of your own "simple swaps" thread, if anything.
Some of those are really cool, others I don't care for simply because the characters mean nothing to me. Although they're all clever parts swaps and good uses for extra fodder. That R&R is pretty sweet though... I think he's my favorite. By the way, paint removal is a very simple modding tool that customizers tend to overlook. By stripping the paint off to its base color, you still get "paint free" customs with great durability. It's a route I take whenever possible, although I don't mind painting... |

To be honest, i don't care much neither about some, but the kitbash was so easy that it might be useful for someone. Sometimes, fodder accumulates and suddendly you can fill a non released character spot with ease. I tend to buy whatever i can, then figure later what to do, or buy some figs just for the gear and forget the figure itself... Quote:

I hate to paint articulations, specifically shoulders and elbows, and i like my figs to retain full poseability if possible. The acetone trick is really useful, cos you can remove almost all paint froma figure, getting almost a proto fig. (i did this with TF Duke to get a full green figure)

Oh and while I could care less about Sneak Peek, I knew exactly who he was at first glance. That one's actually really good too.
The other thing I really dug was how clean the "Benchpress" head was with the beard shaved. Dremel? And your idea for a Footloose head was a great idea, too. |

They all look great M_renegade, but that Rock n' Roll is a homerun.
Great thread. |

Awesome ideas. I don't think that they are lazy; in fact, they are creative.
Hasn't there been another thread similar to this in the past? I've been trying to find it - the one about simple body part swaps to improve certain figures.

At first i hated him cos the vintage looks silly...like a chubby kid, with ridiculous gear. When i got the Barrell Roll, i thought it might do a more decent version, and the chracter grew up on me. No dremel on BP head. Just scrapped with a xacto knife. The beard is barely sculpted, so it gets scrapped easily, you should go for it (you can always remove paint with acetone anyways) Actually, Footloose was another paintless custom, just the Pit Trooper with that head, but i've already started painting. I wanted RnR to look slightly different than a plain greenshirt. I'm not convinced though, since that torso it's small and i hate those skinny upper arms (RnR is supposed to be big, dammit) Quote:
Hum, you have the "useless repaints" on top of the customs forum...didn't think about it, i just saw it.

These are great ideas, this is the kind of customs/kit bashes i like to make, minimal paint work, thats what i like too.
