I finally took a skystriker apart. My goal is to seperate the landing gear lever from the swing wing. Inside is the long black plate that has teeth on each side, the wings have gear teeth that are synched up on this plate on each side. There is a smaller rectangular top plate to keep the wings in position against the gear teeth of the lever/long plate.
My problem is this, how do I seperate the two. I want to keep the lever for the landing gear, but then I have to remove either the teeth on the long plate or the teeth from the gear section of the wing, so without making it where I fabricate something, I am no SuperFlanker, how do I do it? Or I could disengage the landing gear by removing the smaller square tabs that anchor the landing gear to the plate? That way the lever still works for the wings and the landing gear are pull out manuals only. Im stumped for now, any suggestions are appreciated. |

Well, just don't do what I did as a kid and that was strip the gears on the wings. I tried the same thing as it bugged me that I couldn't get the wings open without the gear being deployed and after taking it apart I though that that would have been the best way, and it worked... sorta. The landing gear still worked with the lever but the wings were now loose and without the gears they flopped about of their own; one wing out the other tucked in. I still hate myself for doing that.

I grinded down the gears on the black plate as a kid. I never had the problem with loose wings, but maybe my Skystriker was tighter to begin with.

Maybe if you don't strip all the teeth off the gears and leave ones for the wings to lock in both positions?
I have no idea.

There has to be a way to keep he wing out and disengaged from the landing gears so they can still work. I don't have one laying around to tinker with. I was thinking about this myself as a mod when the new skystriker comes out later this year.

I didn't touch the wings at all. Gears on the black plate weren't completely flat( sanded by hand).

The only thing that I can think of to still keep the swing wing lever is to break off the small rectangles on the large long black plate that will make the landing gear manual-now if these are done, Im sure the gear can stand on its on, one of the landing gear square frames is broken off, so in theory, this should work. Luckily I have a spare skystriker to try this out on--the large long black plate is already broken, so loss is minimal. Ill let you know how it goes.

Who's that guy who took apart a Skystriker and super modded it? He connected the wings with a bar inteernally so they would still swing in unison but the gear was run by the switch only. It was SWEET. I'll try and find the thread.
