have been getting some questions about mold making since I started a previous thread http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ess-molds.html and a lot has revolved around the effectiveness of press molds vs. 2 part molds, so, here is a tut on RTV mold making for those who want to know. Where as a press mold is great for lifting detail this is the best for a full piece. The drawback is that this is much more expensive, messy and potentially dangerous to get into. Also, this tut only covers one of several ways to set up molds and this lay-up can be much more wasteful in materials but is pretty good for those of us who do not have pressure chambers for casting.
If this type of thing has piqued your interest then you can get materials at these sites... Smooth-On, Inc. - Mold Making & Casting Materials Rubber, Plastic, Lifecasting, and More TAP Plastics I do have to say that this stuff is toxic! Read the information that comes with the product or the MSDS sheets on the website for proper use and handling, I don't want anybody getting a pet tumor. I'll also link this to my core thread page http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ut-sculpt.html Feel Free to ask questions... New info! Here is a link to a PDF for a pressure pot for casting, get rid of those pesky air bubbles! http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...G2enPMnXrCtPSA And another PDF http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...EBI1oUASjxdkHA

I'll be using it eventually. I've got a lot of heads I need to cast.

this is a awesome Post and very helpful. I am using Smoothcast 300 and Mold Star 15, sample sizes to begin learning how to do some of this with pretty good result, but this helps me fix alot of my issues...

I'm guessing its toxic while in the making process. But once your done making your item is it still toxic? If not what if a kid bits say a head made out of this material will that be dangerous? I'm trying to gauge how harmful this can be before and after its usage.
