So I'm new to vintage Joe collecting. Its expensive and for the most part I assumed things would be pricer than they are. So when prices seemed OK, I decided to dive in. Got a Tomahawk of Joecom who was awesome. Decided to hit ebay.
Found a seller letting a Killer WHALE go. Always wanted a Whale. "This vehicle has been played with, but in great condition. Please email with any questions. Thank you." i email and ask if anything is broken or missing. The picture clearly shows that the rear steering vanes aren't there, and it's missing 3 missiles. I mention this, and ask about anything else. "The only thing that is broke is the right side missle holder. Its all there not sure if it can be repaired or not. Thank you again." That's not to bad, thinks I. So I make a bid, and lo and behold i win! for relatively good price. I believe I even commented here excited on the subject in a couple of whale threads. yeah. So she arrived today in a box that was flattened. i open said box to discover it inside in one thin layer of bubblewrap with STACKS of spare space around it. Not a great sign. Now aside from the smell of this thing (Which is considerable, and bad) and the fact that dirt and grime and wool (yes, wool) seem to pour out of it, allow me to list the problems. I'll start with the ones i knew about. *top right missile bar is snapped in 2 place. I'm pretty sure I can fix that. *no steering vanes. Expensive to buy, but again, I knew that. *3 missing missiles. S'ok, he told me that. *cannon cover peg snapped. again, I can fix that *Top windshield broken. because it was poorly packed and just snapped and warped to pieces. *rear fan circle is snapped. again because of the poor packing. *no inner ramp for the front entry way. *No button cover for the sled launcher *no dashboard. *The ramp for the sled launcher has a broken tab on the right. I messaged him to tell him and he said I could send it back... at my cost! i ended up just leaving him feedback to be done with it. It's in pieces now (so I can get the dirt and wool out of it) but i am so disheartened at how much spare parts cost Im tempted to frget the whole bloody thing and fork out big money for a new one! be warned folks: Dudes ebay name is 4toyscme and he has a HEAP of old Joe stuff. be warned: he wouldnt know "good condition" if it kicked him. Sads :(

Can I ask what shipping cost you? I assume it came from the US?

I feel your pain. Its taking me almost 2 years to complete mine(didn't have the money to outright buy one).Outside of the vanes, you can find most of the stuff on here(for decent prices too).
If you do decide to keep it,hit up Foolproof.I just unloaded some whale parts for his store and should have some of the parts you need. |

Thanks mate, thats what I expected.
I'm gonna try and pick one of these up myself in the next couple of weeks when my bank account recovers from the beating all those convention exclusives that popped up on eBay today gave it. |

That does suck. I can't imagine trying to send something like that around the world packed like it was.
On the bright side, though, you now have some Whale parts. Part of the fun could be trying to get the rest of what you need and reconstructing it. Or you could sell the parts and put the money toward a complete one.

This sucks for you but it could benefit you in the end. When I was trying to complete my Moray I ended up with 2 complete ones due to all the extra parts. I even had one to customize when it was all over with.

I believe someone sells repro vanes. If you just want a complete Whale for yourself, it might be cheaper to do that than to track down the actual steering vanes.
I wish I still had my Whale. :( I bought it MISB and assembled it myself a few years back.
