I'm thinking more about your statement "Retro means the same in everything else." To me, "retro" does not mean the exact representation of the original, it means an "updated version of the original."

When Dodge relaunched the Challenger and Charger, these "retro" cars were not the exact representation of the originals, but updated versions in the style of the originals. BMX bicycle companies are going through a huge "retro" phase right now by producing "retro" frames, forks, cranks, stems, and handlebars, NOT as exact representations of the originals, but as updated versions of the orginals - I actually bought a "retro" 2017/1988 Haro Sport frame, but it very much has all the modern frame geometry, 1-1/18" headtube, mid-size bottom bracket and thicker, laser cut drop outs.

So, my thinking with Hasbro is that "retro" does not mean "an exact representation" of the original O-ring line but an updated version of it. The problem here is that Hasbro has already gone down this path once beginning with the 25th Anniversary line and then we have to take into consideration the current Star Wars "retro" line, which is almost an "exact representation of the original" line.

So, all of this discussion of what is "retro" and what is not "retro" reminds me of the Dread Pirate Roberts statement to Vizzini, "Truly, you have a dizzying intellect." LOL!!!

I am just glad to see G.I.Joe back on the shelves! Hopefully it breathes life into every aspect of the hobby.

It seems the term “repro” is commonly confused for “retro”. I agree with you that retro should mean a modern product perhaps with a callback aesthetic. If it’s the exact same, it’s a reproduction.

I would be very surprised to see an o-ring product come out at this point. If 0-rings did come out, then I would be extremely happy and glad to be wrong.

In your explanation of retro, the first thing that popped into my head was the Marauder style of figures. They have modern articulation, but their waist movement is similar to the o-ring. The modern era Joe figures went with a chest articulation instead of a waist articulation. I think a new retro Joe line with the Marauder style of articulation would be a pretty great compromise.

Friday June 26 Hasbro Pulse is suppose to dedicate its Fan Friday to G.I. Joe. We don't know what that really entails. Could be Classified reveals, Retro reveals, Snake Eyes movie trailer, a combination of any of those, or something completely different.
