has anyone seen these or know about them?? I've recently been turned onto them because I love mech's and I love war affiliated toys/games. But these toys are based off an artbook done by Ashley Wood same person who did the metal gear digital comic. its hard to place exactly in what timeline these stories are from they can range from 1971-1999 so there can be a wide range of military vehicles, weapons, and even soldiers can change in that time period. Any ways what my point is that I would really like to make some joe-based customs and make a dio for this. any suggestions as to what I can do i.e. for making a crumbled city diorama or something along the lines of destruction bound buildings that has shown some kind of mass warfare going on.

Ashley Wood's art is deceptively complex, the mecha designs look overall extremely simplistic but at the same time so clever, I guess this is from his comic called Robots vs. Zombies. I have been eye-ball'n these figs for a while now but they are in the $200-$300 range which is too brutal for my wallet. Every once in a while ThreeA releases a more affordable version, about $50 but in a smaller scale.
Try a combination of foamcore (I suggest black as it is more dense) and insulation foam which you can get at places like Lowe's or Home Despot for fairly cheap. Also a foam cutter for the insulation foam, you can get a cheap one for under$10. A combination of that mixed up with random Plastruct bits; I-beams, tubes, textured sheets and the like should give you what you are looking for. Keep the paint pallet simple and earthy, near monochromatic and you should be fine. Painting foam can be tricky, you will either need some fat-azz brushes or an airbrush as spray paint will melt the foam due to the propellants in it. Oh yeah, check out ThreA's blawg... Grindhouse Games had a short lived pewter miniature line heavily inspired by WWR called "JUNK", I guess they sold the rites to another company so its sorta in limbo right now while production gets up to gear. I have plans to make my own Ashley Woods mecha figures buy using carboard tubing, plasic joints from Hobby Link Japan, Plastruct and 12" tack gear from Monkey Depot. Just havn't had the time to do it yet.

I just wish I had that kinda pocket change to buy one or two of these robots I would love to make dio shots of them and plus it would be kind of a fun project I could always incorporate some of the POC alley vipers and have them be on a team with a certain commanding robot as well as the soon to be released POC Steel Brigade group with another bot. still though I am liking your idea of the foam and just cutting/crumbling parts of it away, and I'm sure I can spray some paint on there just as long as its from a distance and doesn't go on too thick.
