Mine would be Christmas 92/3. That was the year I got the GI Joe electronic Gulf War Apache and some Star Brigade and Street Fighter figures. It was all awsome stuff.

i was born in 1982. Yeah i might of missed some good years for Joes, but ill tell you this. I cant remember a year i didn't get GI Joes for Christmas. Thats right my first Christmas memories have Joes in em. I gotta thank my Dad for that. Now I enjoy collecting to this day. I am also trying to spread my love for GI Joe as well. I gave my 2 year old son His first GI Joe and ill tell you, there is an age restriction for a reason. Its not a choking hazard, because i took away the small parts. Its the tears in your eyes from the abuse inflicted and lack of an ability to appreciate something you love. Itll be a couple years before he gets another. I have also bought my nephew some for Christmas witch he opened today and loved. My 9 year old daughter sees my collection and has been saying she wants some of the female GI Joes. So I thought what the heck and bought her the new scarlet as well. The way I look at it is this. If something like this brought me so much joy as a kid and still does to this day shouldn't I try and share that with others? absolutely! Merry Christmas to all

It's kind of odd but, I got most of my Joe toys for my birthday each year in September or shortly after I would purchase them myself with the birthday money I got from relatives. One year, all of my relatives gave me money without buying me any other gifts and it added up to quit a bit. I bought the Killer Whale Hovercraft and nearly all of the 3rd series of figures! Usually though, throughout the year I purchased figures with my money earned from chores like cleaning my room, taking out the trash, raking the neighbor's leaves, etc.
Christmas was the big time of year to get Star Wars toys. That is when Sears or JCPenny would have the Environment playsets like the Creature Cantina or Land of the Jawas and multi-figure packs. Those were so awesome! |

Don't remember who got what, but between me and my younger brother, for Christmas 1982 it was: He-Man, Skeletor, some Hot Wheels. It was also: straight arm Flash, Short Fuze, Scarlett, Cobra Enemy, RAM Cycle, HAL/Grand Slam, MOBAT/Steeler. Poor Cobra trooper had to have a less-articulated Imperial Snowtrooper and an AT AT Driver as his backup when it came time to play ;D

Ha... the year that my brother and I were supposed to get the GI Joe Aircraft Carrier. My Dad worked at Sears and got it cheap due to something being wrong with the box. My brother and I were straight A students but we were a handful to say the least.
My parents made it known that we were getting the Aircraft Carrier and then they took it back to the store. Life lesson was learned that Christmas. You better check yo' self before you wreck yo' self |

My best was back in '79; we had just moved into Salem Oregon so my dad could get away from some seriously dangerous work, well, that year was pretty tight. My mom was waitressing and my dad had gotten seasonal work as a tree flocker, weak minimum wage part time work while waiting for a job prospect in the area. Despite this they managed to give a Christmas that sticks in my head till today. I was 7 then and outside of Star Wars there wasn't much I was desiring... Also 79' didn't have much for Star Wars as it was 3 years out from the movie and half a year to the next. But, I got some real cool stuff; the Star Bird Command Base was the center point, totally set up with tons of action figures from both Star Wars and Flash Gordon fighting it out in a diorama that made things much more special then wrapping. The presents seem to double overnight and the lights on the tree always seemed brighter on Christmas morning, As if it illuminated the whole living room. That with the snow outside made everything luminescent and deceptively bright in the early hours of that day and more magical.
This one sticks in my memory because we didn't have much at the time but my parents made something really special for me. I wasn't expecting much but what I got was a memory that affects me to this day. I still use some of these tactics with my girlfriend; I actually stay up late on Christmas eve, wrapping presents and setting up decorations for the morning trying to make this years holidays morning a little like what I enjoyed then. It doesn't work as she loathes Christmas but that doesn't keep me from trying, who knows, maybe some day I'll get it right.

I'm fortunate to have too many to count. However, the most epic one that always jumps to the front of my mind is when my brother and I had finished opening all our presents. My grandfather came over and told us to go look in the back of his truck. We went out to the driveway, and what was sitting in the back of his orange Datsun truck?
The USS, freaking, Flagg!!!
