. . .is there any way to keep the paint from scratching off when you move the figure's articulation points?
This is the only thing keeping me from really customizing some figures!

A lot of times...you can sand the joints and that helps...also thinning your paint has helped for me. If I am painting something that is black and has moving joints....I usually use this black paint marker on them too as it kind of soaks into the plastic.

Put a drop of pva glue in the paint, thin and mix well. Should help.
Sanding/filing the joints a little helps prevent the rub but may make the joint a little loose.

This is certainly one of the headaches of the customizing hobby. I usually paint a primer coat first and test the joints to see where the paint rubs off (especially the shoulders and elbows). I use a dremel with a small sanding head to then gradually sand down the trouble areas, re-primer it & try again. Repeat until I've taken enough off to allow the joints to slide over the paint.
There also may be a tutorial or sticky on this is the customizers forum. I know there are many other tricks out there to address this. Good luck!
