The Rock isn’t alone in thinking that GI Joe Retaliation will be better than the Rise Of Cobra, as fellow co-star Lee Byung Hun has gone on to say:
“I absolutely think that (the sequel) will be more fun than the first one,”Lee was at a press event for Retaliation in Seoul, Korea, earlier where he went on to describe his role as Storm Shadow. We have not heard much from Lee himself prior to this event. Interestingly enough, he compared Stephen Sommers with Jon M Chu:
“If Mr. Summers concentrated on showing many different characters and state-of-the-art CGI-enhanced scenes together, Mr. Chu was focused on the people. He wanted to show their personal histories,” he said. “He thought of the drama on top of flashy visual effects.”Here’s some more insight as to how Storm Shadow is portrayed in Retaliation, and Lee’s challenges:
“If I had just a lot of sword fights and kicks in the first movie, this time my character (Storm Shadow) is seen more up close. It has a dramatic aspect that shows his history, inner conflicts. I loved how much of my acting I could show this time around… but I still think I could have been much more competent in a Korean film.“Frankly speaking, it’s hard. Casual speech and delivering lines in English belong to two different dimensions. Because you use a foreign language, you’ve got to be sure you could recite lines without a mistake even if someone woke you up from a nap.
“On the set, someone from the crew told me after I read my line that my pronunciation was off for one of the words. Right after my head became completely blank, busy thinking about that one line. Sometimes I felt I was back in the earliest days of my career.”
In addition, the article reveals what allegiance Storm Shadow has in Retaliation. WARNING: SPOILER AHEAD. Can’t take it any longer and want to know if Storm Shadow is a Joe or Cobra in Retaliation? Read on…
LAST SPOILER WARNINGStorm Shadow as it turns out, is neither good, nor evil in GI Joe Retaliation. His allegiance has been the subject of speculation for the months leading up to Retaliation. He’s also described as a loner, which was the primary appeal for Lee in playing him:
His character is an independent combatant who fights for neither good nor evil in the story. Lee said that his status as a loner was the role’s biggest attraction and claimed he would not want to play anyone else, even if he were given a chance.

Is a little relieved by the spoiler.
SPOILER
In the comic, he never officially joined the Joes. He just left Cobra and would join SE when asked only to try to reclaim his honor. Good guy? Kind of. But I prefer this interpretation.

i kind of get the feeling that him breaking out cobra commander is just a matter of 'well, i might as well get this guy out too' kind of thing, and then he goes off to find snake eyes/etc. on his own. there's probably a conversation that goes like this:
storm shadow: hey dude from destro's group, let's get out of here.
cobra commander: we still have zartan as the president. want to help us screw the world up when we get out?
storm shadow: naw, man. i have things to do.
/paraphrase. :P

I am VERY happy to hear this interpretation of SS! In the Comics he never really joined Joes until these NINJA FORCE crap became too focused...
"Now, in semiretirement at a remote mountain hideaway, he occasionally takes on a special mission or two—if Snake-Eyes asks him *NICELY*."

Blah, Storm Shadow has always been a cobra to me since the first day I saw him in hiw white gi and cobra logo on his chest. He will always be cobra to me. Whatev... he is not as important to me as Cobra Commander is and CC looks awesome so far in this movie (only thing that could ruin this is they somehow say he is an asgardian king or some Avenger tie in crap). I have a feeling SS and SE will eventually move on anyway...since roadblock is the ultimate ninja commando now...
Steel says
I prefer SS to be a lone Ronin over being the totally dedicated Joe he wound up becoming in the latter era of the Comic-verse.

Suddenly I want a SS toy not as kitbash fodder.
