DJ Caruso in Talks for Third G.I. Joe Film

2012_gi_joe_retaliationFB-570x297 By way of Mr. Albert Ching of Comic Book Resources comes word that D.J. Caruso, Director of films such as Eagle Eye and Disturbia is in talks to take over the next film in the franchise.

If this scenario does pan out, this'll be the 3rd Director on the title in as many films. As G.I.Joe 3 is slated for a release in 2016, we can only hope that something concrete is finally put in to place.

Albert jokes in the article of the possible inclusion of Shia LaBeouf in the film...Let's hope not, as I could just imagine if that were the case - as if millions of G.I.Joe Fans voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.

G.I.Joe As A Marvel Universe Movie?

GI-Joe-Marvel-Universe---Hisstank Over on Movie Pilot, Mr. Kit Simpson Browne has posted up a fun read that can actually serve as an interesting history lesson for those that are unfamiliar with the rich history of the G.I.Joe Universe.

In the article, Kit asks the question "Was G.I.Joe supposed to be in the Marvel Universe?" A great question to ask, seeing as how the ARAH series of comic books was indeed brought to life by Marvel during the 80s. Here's a bit of info from the article -

You might even stop for a second and remember the awesome comic-book series from the '80s and early '90s, written by Larry Hama, and published by Marvel comics. Because, y'know, it was awesome.

What you probably don't sit and think about, though, is just how different the G.I. Joe series almost was, and how its modern origins, way back in 1982, almost changed the modern movie-going landscape as we know it.

The article goes on to discuss Nick Fury, his son and their role in Fury Force, the original concept created by the godfather of G.I.Joe, Larry Hama. It's great read and you should definitely check it out! Once you've given it a read, join us after the break to share your thoughts on whether you think G.I.Joe should be included in to the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

RUMOR - G.I.Joe 3 Director Martin Campbell Announced?

GI-Joe-3-Logo---Hisstank Consider this a rumor until confirmation is received, but with that said, Screen Rant has posted up a rather interesting article pertaining to G.I.Joe 3. It appears as though Martin Campbell is in talks to direct the 3rd installment. With movies like Golden Eye, Zorro and Casino Royale under his belt, this will hopefully mean great things for the franchise. Here's a bit of the article -

With films like Goldeneye, Casino Royale and Edge of Darkness under his belt, it’s clear that Campbell can do darker action/espionage thriller material with a confident hand. On the other side of that filmography, films like Green Lantern and the two Zorro movies suggest that Campbell isn’t nearly as strong with pulpier hero material. The question for G.I. Joe 3 then, is which side of Martin Campbell are the producers most interested in?

What would be interesting to see is how much (or little) Campbell embraces the ninja/mysticism elements of the G.I. Joe franchise. The story of Snake Eyes, his rival Storm Shadow and their ninja sect has arguably been the best part of the G.I. Joe movies; but how much of a fit would all that be in a truly grounded, thriller-type action film?

HISSTANK Coverage Of Hasbro Third Quarter 2014 Earnings Conference Call

Hasbro-2014-Q3-Conference-Call-1 HISSTANK attended the Hasbro Third Quarter 2014 Earnings Conference Call live today.

The last financial quarter was very eventful for Hasbro. Not only the Hasbro-Discovery Hub Network was rebranded, the next Transformers Animated Series; Transformers: Robots In Disguise went to the Cartoon Network. Hasbro also appointed a new Brand President; Mr. John Frascotti. So, we joined the call unsure of what we might hear this time. Will it be good, bad or the usual? But we did not knew, that we were in for a treat as Hasbro made some important statements regarding the future of some of our beloved brands, including G. I. Joe.

More than a year ago, Sister Site TFW2005 revealed for the first time, a curious new Hasbro Trademark at the United States Patent & Trademark Office. The trademark is called AllSpark Pictures and it was only today that Hasbro revealed what it is. AllSpark Pictures is a new initiative by Hasbro where the Toy Company will produce Movies. Hasbro Studios will continue to provide content for the Television while AllSpark Pictures will cater the Live Action/Animated Movies.

Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner:

This new relationship is a terrific complement to the prolific boys’ entertainment slate over the next several years, including film and television entertainment from Marvel and Lucasfilm, as well as the next theatrical installments of Hasbro’ s brands, G.I. JOE and TRANSFORMERS.

We envision Allspark Pictures as a new way to make fresh and compelling movies, based on new and existing Hasbro brands, for audiences globally.

During the Q&A Session, Mr. Goldner mentioned that AllSpark Pictures was formed in order to increase the focus and effort towards Live Action Movies.

CEO also explained why Titan Heroes line exists (it was as if he knew the Fan question). He mentioned that the line is mostly targeted at emerging markets due to their low prices.

How Chris Pratt Almost Became A G. I. Joe

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Official-Photo-Chris-Pratt-Quill-Star-Lord-Intro Everybody's talking about Chris Pratt these days. Why? Because he's the great Star-Lord.

Seriously though, critics and fans are phrasing his role in worldwide hit; Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy. But he recently revealed a secret; He has auditioned for G. I. Joe: Retaliation.

Speaking to Esquire, the actor said…

"When Guardians of the Galaxy was pitched to me, I said, "I don't think so." I just didn't picture myself getting the role. I didn't want to go and embarrass myself like I did when I auditioned for G.I. Joe a couple of years previously. I went in there, and halfway through I saw the director's eyes just glaze over. It made sense—I was a little heavy and out of shape. I was not gonna play someone from G.I. Joe. I did not look like a G.I. Joe action figure come to life."

We do not know whether he'll return, it's highly unlikely. But who knows? Maybe he will, may be he won't.

How Hasbro Decides Which Toys They Will Turn Into Movies

hasbro-toys Business Insider has posted an interesting article explaining how Hasbro decides which toys it will turn into movies and the profit they get in return.

With several more brands set to get the movie treatment in the next few years, we spoke with Hasbro Chief Marketing Officer John Frascotti to find out exactly how the company selects which of its toy lines get adapted to the big screen and how you can possibly turn a board game into a movie.

"We look for those brands that have story and character at their foundation because inevitably for any type of storytelling format, whether it's a movie, a television show, a digital comic ... it has to have great story and great characters at it's foundation," says Frascotti.

All together, the "Transformers" franchise has brought in more than $2.5 billion worldwide. The two "G.I. Joe" movies combined have generated more than $600 million at the box office.

According to Reuters, it's low risk strategy for Hasbro. The toy company pays around $1 million to develop script ideas and if a studio wants to go through with a film, Hasbro gets paid back the developing fee. After the film is in theaters, Hasbro reportedly receives 5% of the money a studio makes from theaters.

The article also states that following the success of the Transformers and other Hasbro brand movies, movies based on Jem And The Holograms, Magic the Gathering and Ouija are on their way to the Big Screen. You can read more at the Business Insider.

G. I. Joe 3 To Begin Filming In Early 2015

Licensing_Expo_2014_G-I-Joe-3-Poster-HissTank-Resized_1403032149_1403111779 After the possible confirmation of G. I. Joe 3 release in 2016, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura states that the film will begin shooting in early 2015.

Speaking to Collider, the producer said:

"G.I. Joe 3 we are trying to get going, starting early next year…I think it’ll be a little later than [January]. I think February or March is probably more realistic. We were originally shooting for January and I think it’s slid a little bit, but you never know. It’s still a little too early to tell yet."

The producer confirmed that they don’t yet have a director, but the search has just begun in earnest:

"We’re just starting [to talk to directors]. We’re negotiating with a writer right now, and once we close that deal—which should be any moment—then we’ll have a story locked down. I’m really excited about it."

Lorenzo di Bonaventura Says A Live Action Transformers/G.I. Joe Crossover May Not Happen

transformers-and-gi-joe_1364698543 Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura states that there are practical limitations when it comes to do a Live Action Movie based on a Transformers/G. I. Joe Crossover.

During an interview with the producer, a question was asked regarding the possibility of a Transformers/G. I. Joe Live Action Movie Crossover. To which, the producer replied:

"No, we haven't spent a moment on it. I know they did it in the comic books, but I think the reality that we're looking at's hard enough to figure out how to do it alone and [then] trying to figure out how to do it together...I don't think that it's as organic as people think. I know a lot of the fans feel that way and I don't think they're wrong. I find it a harder thing to do, think about trying to combine the schedules of all the different people. So, that alone will probably stop us."
