Josh Feldman Joins Hasbro Studios For G. I. Joe III

Josh-Feldman-Hasbro-Studios-Transformers Hasbro Studios scored a major win today by bringing in Josh Feldman to the team for a new position titled head of development of the company's film and TV division.

This is big news on major entertainment news websites since Mr. Feldman is known throughout the industry for his work on movies such as the current X-Men movies.

He is said to work for the next G. I. Joe Live Action Movie.

"With his tremendous experience in brand-focused film storytelling, Josh is ideally suited for this role as we look to expand our feature business," which includes a third 'G.I. Joe' film, says Stephen Davis; president of Hasbro Studios and global entertainment and licensing for Hasbro. "His focus will be on both our franchise and new brands in live-action and animation, and Josh will work closely with the studio’s TV development, brand, design, digital and licensing teams to deliver full storytelling integration across our brand blueprint."

How Chris Pratt Almost Became A G. I. Joe

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Official-Photo-Chris-Pratt-Quill-Star-Lord-Intro Everybody's talking about Chris Pratt these days. Why? Because he's the great Star-Lord.

Seriously though, critics and fans are phrasing his role in worldwide hit; Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy. But he recently revealed a secret; He has auditioned for G. I. Joe: Retaliation.

Speaking to Esquire, the actor said…

"When Guardians of the Galaxy was pitched to me, I said, "I don't think so." I just didn't picture myself getting the role. I didn't want to go and embarrass myself like I did when I auditioned for G.I. Joe a couple of years previously. I went in there, and halfway through I saw the director's eyes just glaze over. It made sense—I was a little heavy and out of shape. I was not gonna play someone from G.I. Joe. I did not look like a G.I. Joe action figure come to life."

We do not know whether he'll return, it's highly unlikely. But who knows? Maybe he will, may be he won't.

How Hasbro Decides Which Toys They Will Turn Into Movies

hasbro-toys Business Insider has posted an interesting article explaining how Hasbro decides which toys it will turn into movies and the profit they get in return.

With several more brands set to get the movie treatment in the next few years, we spoke with Hasbro Chief Marketing Officer John Frascotti to find out exactly how the company selects which of its toy lines get adapted to the big screen and how you can possibly turn a board game into a movie.

"We look for those brands that have story and character at their foundation because inevitably for any type of storytelling format, whether it's a movie, a television show, a digital comic ... it has to have great story and great characters at it's foundation," says Frascotti.

All together, the "Transformers" franchise has brought in more than $2.5 billion worldwide. The two "G.I. Joe" movies combined have generated more than $600 million at the box office.

According to Reuters, it's low risk strategy for Hasbro. The toy company pays around $1 million to develop script ideas and if a studio wants to go through with a film, Hasbro gets paid back the developing fee. After the film is in theaters, Hasbro reportedly receives 5% of the money a studio makes from theaters.

The article also states that following the success of the Transformers and other Hasbro brand movies, movies based on Jem And The Holograms, Magic the Gathering and Ouija are on their way to the Big Screen. You can read more at the Business Insider.

G. I. Joe 3 To Begin Filming In Early 2015

Licensing_Expo_2014_G-I-Joe-3-Poster-HissTank-Resized_1403032149_1403111779 After the possible confirmation of G. I. Joe 3 release in 2016, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura states that the film will begin shooting in early 2015.

Speaking to Collider, the producer said:

"G.I. Joe 3 we are trying to get going, starting early next year…I think it’ll be a little later than [January]. I think February or March is probably more realistic. We were originally shooting for January and I think it’s slid a little bit, but you never know. It’s still a little too early to tell yet."

The producer confirmed that they don’t yet have a director, but the search has just begun in earnest:

"We’re just starting [to talk to directors]. We’re negotiating with a writer right now, and once we close that deal—which should be any moment—then we’ll have a story locked down. I’m really excited about it."

Lorenzo di Bonaventura Says A Live Action Transformers/G.I. Joe Crossover May Not Happen

transformers-and-gi-joe_1364698543 Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura states that there are practical limitations when it comes to do a Live Action Movie based on a Transformers/G. I. Joe Crossover.

During an interview with the producer, a question was asked regarding the possibility of a Transformers/G. I. Joe Live Action Movie Crossover. To which, the producer replied:

"No, we haven't spent a moment on it. I know they did it in the comic books, but I think the reality that we're looking at is...it's hard enough to figure out how to do it alone and [then] trying to figure out how to do it together...I don't think that it's as organic as people think. I know a lot of the fans feel that way and I don't think they're wrong. I find it a harder thing to do, think about trying to combine the schedules of all the different people. So, that alone will probably stop us."

GI Joe 3 Update - Jon Chu Out; Search For New Director On

Jon-Chu-Toy-Fair_1395434302 Collider recently talked with The Rock about GI Joe 3, which was delayed due to Jon Chu directing Jem and The Holograms first.

The Rock says:

Johnson: Yeah, yeah. Well, the idea is that we would start shooting G.I. Joe in January, in the first quarter of next year. That’s the idea. Look, I love Jon, and I think he did a great job. I get it. He had to go on and do something else. By the way, maybe…
Collider: He could still be done by then.
Johnson: Could be, right?
Collider: So do you guys have a Joe 3 director yet? Are you still looking?
Johnson: We’re still looking, yeah.

So while there is still a possibility of Chu returning to direct GI Joe 3, the search is on for a new director in the meantime. Do you want Chu to return? If not, who do you think would be a good director for GI Joe 3?

G.I. Joe 3 On Hold Jon M. Chu Will Direct Jem and the Holograms First

Jon-Chu-Toy-Fair G.I. Joe Retaliation director Jon M. Chu says G.I. Joe 3 is on-hold. The director recently took to Twitter and Facebook to chat about the film. One of the revelations was that Chu will make Jem and the Holograms before G.I. Joe 3 because that Joe script is “taking a little longer” than expected.

If this news does not tell the fan base what the future of G.I. Joe Toys looks like at retail "GRIM" over the next few years I don't know what will. Very sad news, and very deflating for the G.I. Joe Brand name as a whole.

Truly Outrageous!

Lee Byung-Hun Returns To G.I.Joe 3!

Lee-Byung-Hun Lee Byung-Hun, better known to some as the deadly Cobra Ninja Storm Shadow has confirmed once again that he will be returning for G.I.Joe 3! In an interview with the Korea Times, Lee shared the following. We've mirrored the conversation here -

Korean actor Lee Byung-hun will soon leave for Hollywood to star in the third installment of the “G.I. Joe” movie series. Lee’s agency, BH Entertainment, said Tuesday that he will go to the U.S. later this month after finishing his latest film “Hyupnyeo,” which ends shooting in early February.

His appearance in the third “G.I. Joe” movie is hardly news, since he was featured in the first two installments of the series. Yet, his part in the upcoming movie is expected to be bigger than his previous appearances, the agency said.

Despite a production cost of $175 million production, the first installment released in 2009 didn’t enjoy the commercial success expected in North America, taking in a disappointing $152 million in ticket sales. Yet, ticket sales in Asia were relatively strong, prompting some to credit Lee for its success in the region.
