i have a 89 mazda b2200 pickup. i paid the registration on it but it needed a smog so i got the temp sticker. the temp sticker expired in december and the tags on the truck i think are june. so yes i had no smog but it was paid up. i still have insurance on it.
problem is it needs piston rings to pass smog, ive replaced the cats, oxygen sensor, etc but it wont pass till i either do a ring job or replace the engine. recession has hit hard and i havnt had the 1000 to put another engine in. so i parked it in front of my house with a for sale sign in it. i figured if i get the money to fix it cool if not maybe someone else will take a crack at it. i wasnt driving it, it wasnt blocking any fire hydrants or anything. it was parked maybe a week outside on the street. wife called me today to let me know the cops towed it. i called them and they did. i never got a move or tow notice or anything like that. this came out of the blue. so im going to the office tommarrow morning before work. im bringing my pink with me and my key. i dont know what will happen, or if they can even do what they did seeing as the tags were paid for and there was still insurance on the truck. i will see i guess. if they say nope you have to pay to get it out ill probobly hand them the pink and the key and tell them good luck auctioning it. this ever happen to anyone here? if so what was the end result?

Nothing like this has ever happened to me. I am just glad I live where I live. If we do have laws like that they make no difference around here.
Hell, to be honest I would take off the O2 sensor and smog systems and cat convertors. You would be surprised how much better it runs after that and the better mileage you will have. |

I had a friend who got his motorcycled towed with expired tags. He was storing it at my house for awhile but I told him he had to pick it up cause I was moving. Being a lazy ass that he is, he didn't come til 2 weeks later and it was gone by then. I believed he just had to pay the fine and he could pick up his bike then.

If it has a carb you can lean the hell out of the air/fuel mixture.
It creates high Nox, but lowers hydrocarbons and Carbon Monoxide. Don't lean it out too much or else you get spark knock, engine surge or run on. I love my Rochester. I'm sorry to hear about your problem.

You cannot fight the police and the towing companies, they always win. Find out if the police are the ones who instigated the tow, if they are you have a better chance, if its the towing co. your done.
Towing companies have a legal license to steal your car anytime they want, all they have to do is contact the police and inform them that at such and such time they will tow your car and give some bullshit reason. Its your burden to prove that they were wrong in dong so, go ahead call every lawyer in the phonebook, I did, none will touch the case, too busy chasing ambulances. Go to the impound lot and try to take your car back, if you use force they call the police and you go to jail. The ONLY way to protect yourself is keep your car in the garage locked up and keep your 12 gauge loaded. |

in california you have to have thoes to pass smog. freaken truck runs fine even with the burnt rings, it just burns oil. god this sucks. luckily i have another car (though it has a headgasket leak) and my bike still but this was my commuter and gas is creeping up again.
Kansas has what they call a "grown up" state as far as your vehicle goes. They assume you are taking care of your vehicle. I hate how states are doing what they are doing with the environmental laws. They are nothing but power and ways to control people. |

i had my car towed out of my old apt complex for oout of date inspection and things. overdrafted my account to get it out of impound and i think i started parking it elsewhere, as it wasn't the cops that had it towed, but the apt complex itself (worst apt i ever lived in too, my roommate got robbed in our breezeway) so yeah. another time, i got a warning from the cops, but got things taken care of before they got there, so i feel ya man, and those impound fees are lethal.
