True! about a year ago I had my Honda stolen from my house. I have low jack on it, so the cops found it within the hour. They tell me to pick it up at the station and it will cost $75 to release it. I go and the station tells me its at the towing company, ok I go there and the towing company says I have to pay $275 to take it out. WTF? I get my car stolen and I have to pay to get it back. What a bunch of crap!

You cannot fight the police and the towing companies, they always win. Find out if the police are the ones who instigated the tow, if they are you have a better chance, if its the towing co. your done.
Towing companies have a legal license to steal your car anytime they want, all they have to do is contact the police and inform them that at such and such time they will tow your car and give some bullshit reason. Its your burden to prove that they were wrong in dong so, go ahead call every lawyer in the phonebook, I did, none will touch the case, too busy chasing ambulances. Go to the impound lot and try to take your car back, if you use force they call the police and you go to jail. The ONLY way to protect yourself is keep your car in the garage locked up and keep your 12 gauge loaded. |

freaken assholes.
apparently if a smog is due past the temp tags you cant park it on the street. I got no warning of this, no notice, nothing. i cant pick it up till monday so by the time its all said and done its going to cost me almost $300. dmv will give me a one day moving pass (seeing as all the fees are current) for free and the stockton PD said i can get it off the lot and drive it home with that. this still blows. im calling my lawyer in a bit to see if they are supposed to put a notice on the vehicle before they tow it or if they can just tow it. if they are supposed to put a notice then im raising hell due to me not getting one. but i got a bad feeling im stuck. also i cant just sign it over and walk away. i still am resposible for the fees. I was thinking to just say fuck it and give the tow yard the title and tell them good luck. well i can give them the title but i have to pay all fees due at the time then or it goes against me. makes no sense to do that if i can get a moving pass from the dmv and drive it home. god i hate california. so on that note expect some kind of sale in the store this weekend. i need to raise 300 to get my truck out :(

That sucks you got towed. Kinda reminds of a news story here.
There's a place they've covered on the local news here recently. It's a tag office of somekind in a stripmall, but privately ran, not run by the state. Anyway the place gets tons and tons of business. Thing is, it's only alotted like 5 parking places. So, if someone parks in an unauthorized spot, the landlord of the stripmall has a towing service on site. First they put lock on the wheel, and make you pay $50 to have it removed. If you refuse to pay right then, they tow your vehicle and you have to pay a $250 fine for being illegally parked. And it's all legal because they have signs posted. Fraking scam if you ask me. |

you know i can understand them towing it if i was driving with no smog, or if i parked it on a lot somewere and left it. but it was in front of my house with the fees paid up. freaken petty crap. dont they have something better to do then mess with me?
seriously its been a bad couple months for me and vehicles. this happend, my big truck needs a relay switch replaced to fix the a/c (you have to take half the dash off to get to the five dollar switch) and exhaust rings replaced, my wifes cadi has a leaky/blown head gasket (1996 northstar v8, any mechanic here knows what kind of a pain this is), and the bike is too high maintance to ride every day. its been a bad few months for vehicles for me :( freaken gremlins.
