I'm asking because I've had a small contingent of Joe fans (probably those who enjoyed lasers flying around hitting everything but people) who felt a Suicide Viper--albeit a logical, realistic jump--was too real world for the Joe-verse. I meant all along for the SVs to target military installations and not mass citizen population, but even so: do you think the SVs have a place in Cobra? Keep the Joes kid-friendly, or wth...it's a toy, don't take it so seriously?
Obviously, I stand with the latter statement. It's a toy, and my son and I can separate the two with no misconception of the real world problems that exist in our culture today.

Well, since movies can now be banned, I say ban anything controversial! And let's burn the books, too!

cheaper than BAT with a bomb on it's back... There really are so many versions and Joe realities (ARAH, Marvel Comic, DDP Comic, IdW comic, toy lines, etc etc) that a SV would work just fine for say G.I.Joe Resolute but be way out of place if you like your Joe Sunbow style... I say it's up to however you view you collection and joeverse... Mine is all ARAH inspired looking figures on the Joe side but I would have no problem fitting that SV on my Cobra shelf...

When I first saw this I didn't like the idea (I'll explain why in a minute) however (a) I think I understood your premise (b) I don't care what other people do with their collection/Joe universe (c) these are not toys being sold to kids and (d) most people who will see this online are adults and we can handle it, so I didn't bother commenting.
Since you asked the question now, I will give you my thoughts. Ethical issues aside, I just didn't think it made sense within Cobra. In the Marvel and Sunbow universes Cobra troopers and vipers always seemed like hired goons who washed out of the military or were recruited from gangs and were only in it for a paycheck (or power, on the off chance Cobra Commander actually took over the world). They never seemed to have any loyalty or patriotism beyond that. Cobra soldiers, and even some higher ups like Bludd and Firefly, were quick to run away or surrender when the Joes got the upper hand, so the idea of a viper who would intentionally kill himself for Cobra's cause didn't make any sense. Now in something like the Rise of Cobra movie where the Neo Vipers were genetically modified and being mind controlled, I could totally see this happening, so if that is what you were going for, fine. After all this, I'm not sure how to vote in your poll given the options, but there's my 2 cents. If you like the figure, keep it. Last edited by jfaria; 12-21-2014 at 05:10 PM.. |

Idk why you didn't name it kamikaze viper instead of suicide viper? At least with kamikaze it sounds like he might actually do something, suicide viper just sounds like he might do himself in long before being assigned a mission?
Idk about how appropriate it is for kids, pretty sure neither name would make it to a retail line, maybe a BAT that self destructs itself when ammo is expended, heavily damaged,or in an opportune moment to maximize casualties... also most suicide attacks are religious or belief system inspired, including the Japanese kamikaze. Idk how much religion has to do with cobra. I'm aware that in a few joeverses there are some religious connections tho.

"Suicide troops" are indeed a part of war, both in past and present. It is something that everyone learns of at some point in their lives, but I believe (in this case at least) it is better left to history to educate rather than GI Joe.

Actually, the SVs are part of the "Kamikaze Battalion." Ha, I have that designated on my file card, but can only upload one photo from my phone.

I'm with the latter take. Although a "gruesome fate" awaits the aforementioned troopers, everyone has their own G.I.Joe Universe and what might be unfit for some, is perfectly fine with others.
I personally think the concept of having Cobra Commander program their det codes in to his phone are brilliant. One way or another, s@#t is going down! |

If Hasbro did this as an official release I would be, "WTF?" but as your own creation though? I see no problem with it.
