I'm sorry, haven't played ME1 or ME2 yet (big DragonAge fan thou) and there's no way I would have ever expected a lvl 50 character to transfer to a new game. That's just silly.
Also, just from the commercials, I knew that playing ME2 would be basically a new character, and that was just knowledge gained from watching a 30 second TV commercial and not knowing a thing about either game. I've been thinking of picking up ME1 and eventually ME2, but got the DragonAge expansion coming down the pike and still have Lego Indiana Jones 2 to finish up so it'll be awhile before get to ME1. That's too bad Troy, cause ME 1 was a damn good game.

Man Dealer Destro you are fired up!
One, Bioware never said you were going to be able to transfer your stuff and all your xp etc. They actually said the opposite of that...so they covered their bases there. Two, I'm with you as I was disappointed to read this but I understand it. They would have to have made the game level to your ability (which I'm not saying is impossible) to make it a challenge if we started at level 47 with all of our weapons, etc. Three, my understanding is you do get to play with the characters from the first game. In fact, I'm helping Garrus out right now and I've already seen Tali (sp?) once. I think for as awesome, and for me, groundbreaking, as this game is that maybe Bioware took out the full importing of the old character save because they had to chop some things to get it out in a respectable follow up timeframe. I can't believe how hard it probably was to make this game as I am in awe every time I have turned it on.

You do get a few of the characters from ME in ME2 to rejoin your team, but if it was all the same cast entirely it might have been a bit redundant. The new characters give you some new stuff to deal with as well as get to know, though I won't be surprised if in ME3 maybe whomever is still alive from both games are party members that will join you.
If the file transfer thing had been possible to bring ALL your stuff back from the first game...it wouldn't have worked out since things have been tweaked quite a bit from the original game combat wise as well as with things like leveling up and so on. For example, no longer can you raise your persuade or intimidate stats like in ME1, it all depends now on your Paragon and Renegade stats. |

Well that's good to know. In the future they should just say your decisions will be imported and not your character. Two completely different things.
I said in a couple posts that I wasn't following it's release closely. Funny how no one remembers the initial claims that were made though. I should have put my flamer disclaimer in there too. LOL!! |

Again, as I mentioned in previous posts, I didn't follow release like a groupie at a concert. The last I heard was import of character which would include invenotry, exp, etc. I find when I used to follow games that I really was anticipating I would see/read/hear things that would steer me away and I was trying to avoid any spoilers, and by doing so with ME:2, I was still dissappointed. So I guess it's a lose/ lose situation. I will see later though as my opinion may change. It is good to hear that Garrus and some other characters are still accessable. I am out of here in an hour and will go home to fire up the Xbox.

My understanding was you'd be able to transfer your NCAA Football characters to Madden and then transfer those characters to Mass Effect 2 and then those characters would be available for use as player characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic. It's too bad, because I was really looking foward to having a Sith Warrior with a 158 passer rating.

yeah all in all there are a few thing bioware should and shouldnt have done. i mean overall i think the game is a sweet game. the gameplay is btter, the graphics and dialog and missions are better and the story still kicks ass and the new characters are pretty nasty and rockin but, but the character import was kinda a let down (wish i would kept my level weapons armor etc), not a fan of the lack of inventory or customizability of my squad, miss the mako (though the new footside exploration does make the mish's a bit longer which is nice), and i hate the need for fuel in the damn ship when doin the mining and galaxy transfers (wastes money that is a valueble neccesity to upgrade everything). also i miss finding gear upgrades etc out on missions. Overall yeah there are things that woulda made this one as rockin bad ass as ther first one but i still love it and despite the short comings the game is seriously involved and badass and love it love it LOVE IT. (though i woulda liked to have had ashley back)

Cool info Deckard. I am on my way out and gonna go fire it back up. Apparently I made a doosy by distancing myself from articles and previews for the game, as I didn't want anything turning me away. Had I have read what people on here are saying about the import I would not have bought the game, and after seeing it, was not planning on buying it, but hell I ended up getting a deal. While I am sore about it (character import), I will have to see if getting garrus back in my squad will make up for it. ;) Aaaaaaaaand awaaaaaaaay we GO!
