I didn't like the bad guys at first glance, I'll check them out again tomorrow I think.

In previous posts you were telling others to take these Crysis figures up to the register and tell the clerk that they cost "$1.99" and "see what happens!" so obviously you think this is acceptable behavior, at the very least. But I buy enough action figures to know that these Crysis 2 figures obviously don't cost $1.99 and when asked how much they do cost, I gave the only truthful answer: "I don't know." dang. schoooled by Gunslinger.
First I read this thread, thought AWESOME! Than my fellow tanker's b-slap it with the morality, and as usual, they are right. It's one thing to not say anything and let the clerk give it to you for the price she wants or thinks is right, I'm not going to argue that morality. It's another to lie about the price to get something for less, that is shoplifting, regardless of how we want to perceive it. And ultimately, it hurts us all. By posting this thread, there will be a guaranteed few who head out to try this same thing at their local store, and I don't doubt that many will succeed at doing the exact same thing. And here's the rub. Buying these at $1.99 is less than wholesale, as pointed out earlier, meaning the Target toy buyer now has a product line with negative margin, equating to virtual shrink / bad buy. It will prevent the senior buyer from allowing 'open to buy' dollars to go back into this line. If this becomes a widespread trend and target's POS systems can't get the price fixed, this line will have been a total disaster for Target, guaranteeing we won't be seeing any more Crysis figures, and possibly preventing another line from getting picked up. And let's just be honest here; these figures are part of the same 'class' of toys as GI Joe, which is what retail buyers group toys into. The lines are averaged out at a high-level when incorporating sale trends against sales plans. When a negative margin item (Crysis) is averaged into the class with items that may have just done ok or not great (POC / ROC), we have a serious problem when it comes to future orders. Prime example? Who doesn't have a few Night Ravens sitting in your clearance section at Target from ROC. Who couldn't find the Rhino clearanced out for under $10? Because they were such poor sellers, Target stopped carrying larger Joe vehicles, because there was a breakdown in sales at the larger level of Joe items in that class. This year we saw Bravo scale POC vehicles missing from Target's assortment for just this reason. So while it is cool you got an entire line of figures for $10, maybe it's not best to post this kind of stuff. It is shoplifting. It is cheating the system. It does damage the future of this type of product. It absolutely damages the boys line of 3 3/4 inch toys, GI Joe included. When we see a diminshed presence of figures on pegs, like we're seeing with POC, these are the threads we can attribute to the decline. It all adds up, and there is a tipping point. |

You can try and pass this off anyway you want-- but it's not simply that I "like to pay more" for action figures and that you don't; it's more that I don't like to lie and maybe you do?

well then maybe the stores should price the items before putting them out? Its not about lying...who lied...i just said a 1.99 and go it for that. is it my fault the store (which incidentally the other targets i visited that had any ALSO did not have them priced or according to the price sanner things int he system so eat it) didnt have them priced?
But let me ask you a few questions: How long have you been collecting action figures for? Can't you recognize the difference between a crappy Corps figure packaged on cheap-o card stock and, say, a McFarlane Halo Reach figure? Can't you also determine value simply based on the weight of the plastic and the paint applications, not to mention the card stock and packaging? I'm sure you can. So when someone asked you how much you thought these cost, you lied. You didn't even try to offer an educated guess based on your knowledge of action figures. You also chose deliberately not to tell the truth (which is that you simply didn't know). You purposefully claimed a ridiculously low price in order to cheat the store. Don't tell me you actually thought these were $1.99-- because that's a blatant lie. You lied, dude, so deal with it. Then you came on the forums and told people to try to do the same thing. Painting it any other way doesn't absolve you of your actions. And JoeMama's post is 100% correct. How do you think stores make the decision whether or not to stock future product? They do it based on sales! And so if you lie to get action figures from the store for $1.99, when they actually sell for $7.99 (and cost $2.99 or whatever wholesale), well guess what-- you've just /hurt/ sales for the product you probably want to support so that they keep being produced. |

Maybe Target shouldn't have sold the figures to you at all? That might have been the "appropriate" move.

well technically the cashier didn't bother calling out his/her TL at the service desk to look up for the price.
besides, during the holidays, a lot of stuff on the floor are mis-priced and mis-labeled like crazy. it will take more than 10 mins to verify the price, which for some can be time consuming.
