Living with the folks still can often times be annoying, but this is one thing I am now a bit concerned about...
My Dad has nagged about how my room smells like plastic what with me having a large number of toys on display in there and stuff and says how it can't be healthy for me. Naturally I start looking things up and see things listed with PVC as being listed as bad health wise. Of course I've seen some toys listed like the Masters of the Universe Classics as having PVC in them (on bottom of packaging), but they don't smell at all from what I've noticed. Only toys I've had that really smell are these Japanese figures from a line called Figma. They smelled strongly of plastic for quite a while upon opening, but then mostly faded away. Of course, now this has got me all concerned over things in my collection. I don't like to get paranoid, but it's an annoying deal with me when it comes to health issues. Ugh. I wonder if maybe something like baking soda could help remedy this...or something at all. |

I wouldn't worry about it. Everybody claims to love the "New Car" smell, and that's just 30 or so different polymers/plastics curing. It's all about presentation. You're not a dork for spending $10K+ on a car, but you are for spending $10 on a toy.

He just got me all worried on the 'plastic smell' and how it can't be good for my health and stuff despite the fact I've had toys in my bedroom for as long as I can remember. Just a few that really are standing out lately in those Japanese figures of mine. O_o |

I sometimes wonder about my older stuff, and what kind of materials were used. I don't think it will kill me, I mean it's not like I'm sucking on the things, but still.

All jokes aside, if smelling toys is the worst thing you ever did, you would live to be 120 years old. We encounter so many more toxins on a daily basis through our food and drink.

I'm more concerned about my whole collection and office being in the basement. A good deal of my time is spent down here, and I should really check for radon. If that was an issue in here, plastic toys would be the least of my worries.
