I think you should collect Sky Commanders instead. It will savew you money and be a much more rewarding experience. Plus they will most surely not make a newer and better version of them in 2 years, rendering your collection valueless.

New versions of old characters do not make a collection valueless. The fact that vintage SW figures are so valuable and have induced any and every one to collect every figure -or item with a SW logo on it- on the card, as some sort of investment or retirement plan is what inspires a lot of the stupidity in the line. Any one with two grains of sense know these figures are most valuable in the 2 months surrounding their release, and stedily drop in value after that. (Yes, I realize there are exceptions.)
I feel bad for the kids, who should be able to enjoy their toys, rather than being minitaure curators of some false hope museum of neglected toys. |

I'm not saying one should collect as an investment, what I'm saying is you buy 100 star wars figures and 60 % of them get remade in a few years and you now have to run out and buy the newer, better versions. That renders the older version essentially useless in a collection and are therefore valueless. You then can't sell them for even a fair price because they are old hat and everyone wants the new style. Look on craigslist sometime at all the poor schmucks trying to unload their MOC Phantom Menace, AOTC, or POTF crap for hundreds of dollars. You can't give those things away. |

But, my point is that new versions aren't the reason the collections are worthless. My point is that everyone and their brother have collections, making supply high and value low. |

If you can afford it, do what makes you feel good. Personally I have my hands full with the lines I already collect. If I won the lottery though, My goal would be to reenact every scene of the entire series in my living room. Star wars allows you to that, down to the last detail, which should also tell you how huge the line is $$$$.

If you just start collecting now it is not that bad; I feel sorry for all the SW collectors that already bought all the old vehicles and have to re-buy the new ones since they are so much better now IMO.
