If you want to do it, do it. Definetly a lot to go for, but the vast majority of older items can be had for less than retail.
If ya do, I have both the most recent Rancor's for a fair price.

yes! get it all. nicest thing is you actually find the (non-exclusive) figures easily. other than the toys r' us exclusive wave I've found every figure on the pegs multiple times at least as far back as the concept figures wave. way less stress than hoping to find the figure you're looking for on one or two pegs (like G.I.Joe) when SW has twenty pegs almost everywhere you go! + it's starwars, you'll be able to keep toy collecting FOREVER!

I put yes, but I guess it all depends on what you mean by "collecting". I collect Boba Fetts and Mandalorians, and some storm/clone troopers, and biker scouts. I also have a small collection of Darth Vaders. I'll get an occasional figure now and then, and an occasional ship, usually to customize, but that's about it. Oh, and I bought the AT-AT. But I don't get one of every character, I don't buy every vehicle, and so on. When POTF came out about 1995, I started to try Roger every figure, but quickly fell behind. So I have a small SW "collection", but I don't necessarily actively collect SW. So, just as with Joes, I say collect only what you want. You don't have to have it all.

I limit what I collect for SW. Almost all Original trilogy stuff, especially ESB (which has some real cool stuff out now), but also look for good articulation and pass on stuff with the swivel elbows or straight knees. I do also have a bunch of clones from AOTC, and some expanded universe stuff.

Personally, since Joe stuff slowed down I've been getting more SW, but as people said, STICK TO SPECIFIC STUFF! I would have spent way too much if I tried to get everything... Mandalorians/Bounty Hunters... then a hoth setup for my AT-AT. That's it for me. |

Honestly I recently dipped back into to Star Wars but only for troopers and vintage figures to get the missile firing boba fett. For a line like SW there is so much I'd recommend limiting what you get or pick one line, one wave or one type. You'd go insane trying to get them all.

Unless your pockets are unusually deep, or you've no real love of eating...I'd say no. The line is massive. I don't think there's another line in existence that's so exhaustive of it's source material. If it appeared on screen, in a comic, in a novel...they've done it.
