Actually most online stores will hold items in your cart for up to 30 min so you can continue to add items, afterwhich it will go back into the regular selection. I would have been ok with this if this was the case but all I did was check the Iron Man figs and come right back to the cart, maybe 2 minutes. It's not a complex code or anything either.
And it's NOTHING like having it taken from your physical cart. The only reason they use the word "cart" is because its familiar to the consumer. It's more like a menu. Until you get to the register, you may not see the "sold out of chocolate milkshakes" sign on the register. It says whats available when you get there, not necessarily when you're ready to pay. It sucks, but we've all run into that at a restaurant. Retail stores are no different. Happens at Cons too. |

Not so, my friend. I've had it happen at Target and TRU's .coms. You can have it in your cart and it may stay in your cart, but if the item sells out in the meantime, you're out of luck in most cases. It may not be a complex code, but it may be easier just to sell to whomever is ready to pay first. That's capitalism.

Yeah, everything depends on programming / site design.
On my site, once it goes into the cart it is removed from physical inventory. That cart session will be maintained until it is purchased, or unless six hours go by, at which time the contents of the cart are returned to inventory. This is about how it would work in a brick n' mortar retail store. I think this is a good balance between making sure people get what is stored in the shopping cart, and dealing w/ abandoned carts. |

This. HTS can be bad, but it's nothing compared to the clusterfuck of a website that is Mattycollector.

HTS does kind of suck with the cart feature but it is how they have it set up. It does not go off their inventory until it is purchased. I had a Para Viper on there for months and forgot about it. Checked it one day and sold out. It's no Pile O' Loot that's for sure. |
