Is everyone somehow ignoring Mattel's $150 He-Man Origins 4-pack, $250 WWE retro ring oh & ACTION FORCE $150 Sgt. Slaughter? Prices have been out of control for a very long time but when Hasbro does it its a crime against humanity!

Hasbro has ALWAYS crowdfunded their products. It's just that traditionally, that "crowd" was limited to just the toy buyers for big box retail at ToyFair. They (with very few exceptions) have NEVER gone to full production for ANY item without a prior commitment to buy from SOMEONE. The only new thing about the HasLab model is that the end consumer has replaced the professional toy buyer in the equation. That's it.
when i say "crowdfunding" im explicitly speaking about schlubs like us that buy into a product and hasbro took the idea of haslab from kickstarter in that regard. operation recall, callsign:longbow, both campaigns on kickstarter - crowdfunding. hasbro selling snake eyes action figures to walmart - not crowdfunding. part of the supply chain process. i think for the most part we agree on this haslab crap though. no. i just dont care. |

Those are trash, too. I've seen a ton of complaints about those.

No need for the condescension. Do better.

operation recall, callsign:longbow, both campaigns on kickstarter - crowdfunding. hasbro selling snake eyes action figures to walmart - not crowdfunding. part of the supply chain process. When a Boy Scout troop or Little League team fundraises by selling popcorn or chocolate bars, does it make one lick of difference to the organization if those buyers are men, women, children, old folks, black, white, brown or green? Of course not. The only thing that matters is that the required funds get raised. You're willfully limiting the definition of "crowdfunding" as if that has any bearing on the bottom line. So many folks here keep arguing that the HasLab model is something new and is unnecessary/bullshit/a scam. I'm simply arguing that it is in fact essentially how they have always operated. The big toy companies have said for years that retail has little to no appetite for large, expensive products. That used to mean those things never got made at all. So isn't it better that we now collectively have SOME say in whether or not these things get produced? No one is happy about the price, but at the end of the day, all these things are luxury items. One either thinks them worth it or they don't and spends their money accordingly. But anyone who argues that Hasbro should blindly invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in production costs on the hope that that investment pans out and their target audience bites, lacks any business sense whatsoever and should stop. |

hasbro says lots of things. "no one wants o-ring figures." after people buy black major, red laser, and a kickstarter campaign for strike force alpha saying otherwise: hasbro starts selling o-ring gijoes again at the same markup that independent companies have to have in order to get a factory to make them - except, hasbro already has these factories around already.
they'd been saying no one wants o-ring figures since 1997. |

they'd been saying no one wants o-ring figures since 1997. But, we're addicts and they'll continue to take advantage until we start saying no.

I just want to reiterate, for those keeping track at home, this Haslab has NOT reached Tier one yet, or funded, or reached the early bird. It has very much stalled at the moment.
