Down to 5,208 (10/12). I added dates and times to the posts above, to help track this failure, as it continues to lose backers. But, still 19 days to go. There's still time to save this project.

People talking about the insanity of Mattel's Eternia price, but even at 550 dollars, they're only asking to sell 5000 to put it into production. That's 2.75 million. That means Mattel feels like they'll make a comfortable enough profit off of only 5000 Eternias.
The GR Haslab, on the other hand, wants to sell 9000 at 350 each... that's 3.15 million. Just proving how ridiculously overpriced that piece of shit Haslab is. Hasbro didn't think this thing could make them enough profit unless it sold 9000 units???

That's why I think a better approach would be to have a higher minimum backer count, and a lower price point- $300 and 10k backers, or whatever it may be.

Meh, all Hasbro has shown me versus JazWares' performance on Halo and Fortnite is that Hasbro has shit-tier contract negotiation skills and we have to pay for that. |

GI Joe is a non licensed property, but yet we're paying the same as for LEgends and TBS. Why? The difference they save I feel used to benefit us- like, we can sell a Joe for 18, a Legends for 24 and a SW for 26, so will standardize the price across the board to 22 or whatever. Doesn't feel like that's happening. Same sort of thing with TVC. Part of the reason we pay the regular price for repacks and repaints is to fund the tooling for new figures so they can also be regular price- not "deluxe" or even not deluxe at all, just higher in price. There's like 7 iterations of the ARC trooper right now, all on the same build- that should make if possible for the Morak Boba to still be 15, as well. They really are just seeing what they can get away with. Look at that Cassian figure- 100% new tooling, a long coat (comparable to a jet pack accessory, I think), for $15. Why is he not $20.99 or 16.99? I guess it could be because he's not exclusive, but it's more likely they don't just Andor to sell regardless of price like they do Boba. Anyway, they're just full of shit. I guess what I wish is that they would just level with us, instead of acting like everything is out of their hands as they continue to record increasing profits, all while laying off people and just being generally shitty.

Fair enough. I just struggle to get out of the mindset where I take things like sensical accessories and quality paint apps as part of the action figure experience, and not add-ons to be upcharged at every turn.

People are complaining about Eternia, but isn't that was Haslab was SUPPOSED to be? Dream items that stores wouldn't take due to price. The Barge was a dream item. The Razorcrest, for as tricked out as it was, and from an untested series, was essentially a dream item (especially since post BMF Hasbro seems loathe to put out a large vehicle).
Stuff like the Charger, Rancor, Galactus, Sentinel, Not Really A Haslab Jabba's Palace, Reva's Lightsaber - this is crap that can and has come out in stores before. We've had Sentinels and Galactus as BaFs spread across many figures. There are plenty of 1/12th scale cars. A slightly smaller Rancor came out in TRU with a ton of figures back in the day. High end lightsaber replicas are a dime a dozen now. We've had Skystrikers at retail. Haslabs have changed from "This is the only way you'd likely get this once in a lifetime item" to "We want to charge you $350 for SOMETHING because this means it's a PREMIUM COLLECTORS ITEM that FOMO will drive you to pay for, so RANDOM BULLSHIT GO!". I'd even argue the HISS with one figure and no electronics and the "hollow" inside of the original could have been at Target for $150. |
