I got some swamp thing figures off eBay. They have some kind of stickiness to them like dipped in candy or something. I tried boiling them, soaking them in water, soaking them in soapy water, etc. Nothing seems to remove it. I thought maybe it was weed smoke but it doesn't smell like it and honestly haven't been around weed that much to know what kind of residue it leaves just that it smells horrible. Any ideas how to remove it?

This method has been successful for me in removing stickiness. |

Shadow, at Walmart if you go where they sell razors, there is a hair removal thing that you can get that has wax strips in it. Inside of that box it comes with a small container with blue oil of some sort. It's used to remove any wax residue. My wife uses this stuff and I used the oil to remove old adhesive residue and it really works.

The Swamp Thing figures from 30years ago? Was the stickiness all over the figure or just the softer parts? If so that's plastic degradation. Use an old toothbrush to make sure you get into all the crannies and then be sure to seal everything with a water-washup sealant once dry (I'm leery of spray sealants as spraypaints often have the same degrading compounds as model kit paints needing thinner cleanup can have - i.e. you might make the problem worse).

I got others and they are fine. It is just these that are sticky.

That's not helping answer my questions, man. If the figures had been cooped up in a plastic tub/bag/original packaging for 30years the degradation would be worse than not. It could still be the source of the problem.

Dawn dish soap with a soft bristled toothbrush. Even if it’s plastic degradation it takes that sticky residue off many vintage figures. It works on Star Wars vintage all the time.
And I’m totally going to get some of that wax that Barty talked about and take the oil and then send the wax to Barty.
