Nah, no one had even heard of Conan O'Brien back in 1980.

The popular rumor is that He Man was originally developed to be a kid friendly Conan property, and/or a movie line but was ultimately changed to He-Man, possibly due to the violent nature of the movie. The creator of He-Man denies this.
This article is as informative as any covering the subject, including documentation from the court case wherein Conan Properties actually sued Mattel: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbr...oy-tie-in/amp/ Upon further research, here this: https://law.justia.com/cases/federal...2/353/1475694/

Also, it was first time in years that a cartoon could feature a muscular*hero that was allowed to hit people. He-Man mainly used wrestling moves and he would pick up his opponents and toss them away besides hit them.
