The issue of scale bothered me even as a kid in the 1980s. Its one of the reasons I like the transformers cartoons much more than the toys...

This was one of the reasons that I collected GI JOE instead of Transformers.
Well I could only afford one toy line, so I chose GI JOE... It always bothered me that they changed size at will. How can Devestator form inside astrotrain?

Well I can tell you for a fact that the scale would work. I spent a good part of a year working on growing my Bumblebee and he stands just over 10 inches, 2 inches bigger than the Human Alliance. And to prove my point, here are a couple of pics I took back in October:
As for the bigger vehicles, cap it off no bigger than 2ft in bot mode. That should cover Prime and Megatron. If they can make those stomp toys about this scale, then there should be no reason to make the human alliance figures the same scale. Personally, I don't think they had the guts to try and see if they would sell. I know we had asked them to look into this ever since the last movie came out and they keep dodging the statement. How many more kit bashes and engineering by the fans will it take to prove that this scale will work for the Transformers? |

Something else I forgot to mention, The vehicles do not have to be true 1:18th scale, just big enough to hold a Joe size figure. Look at the size variations between true 1:18th scale vehicles and the Joe vehicles (Thanks to tkjaer21 comparison pics). The Joe vehicles tend to be a bit smaller than the counter parts. Yet they hold the figures just fine. The same can be said for the proposed 1:18th scale Transformers. Just get them big enough to fit the Joe scale figures and they should fit nicely in the same boxes as the current Transformers are shipping in. Example, Box Bumblebee here in either Leader class box in bot mode or Voyager class box in car mode, simular to what they are doing now with the Human Alliance set.
Ladies and Gentlemen, The 1:18th scale Transfomers will work as Dr. Vile's custom works have shown from this years contest. The question that remains is not can they make them, but when will they make them? |

Very cool. Looks like our Sam customs are almost the same except for that awesome Strokes decal on yours. Is that a water slide decal? If not, how'd you do it?

what it is . is that they have to many sizes. if they shrunk it down to 2 or 3 then they could make the big ones as Leader class, Voyager class witch ever is bigger. then have the deluxe then Scout and only make the leader or voyager as said witch ever is bigger for the big guys. then have most the line in deluxe. that way they would be in scale.

Thanks Freedom.
Yeah, it is a water transfer decal. I found an image online and photoshop it down to size and then printed it out on those Testors sheets and then applied it on. The trick was not to let it curl inward while slideing it on the chest. When I have some more time, I will take some more pictures of BB vs Ravage and some co-op with the girls (Arcee and the gang) plus the ultimate cross over, Movie GI Joe and Movie Transformers. Now how cool is that. |

Yes, I had heard that Hasbro would release a leader class Starscream. I will most likely end up buying it, but it won't match with the rest of the squadron: Skywarp, thundercracker and Ramjet, still, pretty cool though! |

I understand that from a business standpoint Hasbro has to offer a variety to fit all budgets and levels of interest. Not every parent is willing or able to spend $50 on a Megatron, so when little Suzy wants one, Hasbro offers a Leader class, Voyager class, and depending on the figure a Deluxe, Scout and or Legends class (The tiny ones). I understand this, it makes sense.
What bothers me and has always bothered me is that the vehicles are rarely built to scale. Take the new movie line for example: The motorcycles are the same size as the cars, a Raptor jet is the same size as a pickup truck. I realize that in the Sunbow cartoons and in the comics, they have the ability to shrink down or expand; Megatron can be a giant gun or a real sized gun etc.. But as for the Movie toys, Micheal bay said specifically that he wanted the Tranformers to always maintain the same mass, which is why they chose a long nose model truck for Optimus, to have more mass. If everything was 1:18 scale it would get ridiculous very fast, we all know how big a true 1:18 vehicle can get and what about a character like Devastator or Omega Supreme? There are always going to be exceptions. Well, why not 1:24 scale? My point is, that as a Hardcore collector, I would love to have a set of Transformers toys that don't look silly when they are side by side, I want a semi truck, a sports car, motorcycle and yes even a jet, to look normal when they sit on my display case. I am even willing to compromise, make starscream the size of a semi truck or tank, just don't make him the same size as camaro. This is one of the reasons why I didn't get into the Animated Transformers. I thought (at first) they were consistently in scale with one another (as close as any line has come) but I realized later they weren't. |
