So recently, thanks to getting a TRU MP Bluestreak as a gift and then scoring an MP-10 Optimus on the cheap, I've gotten into MP T-formers a little. All I wanted to do was collect my personal faves from the first year of the toy line/cartoon, Through a mix of knock-offs, real MPs and 3rd-party, I mostly have all I wanted. I have an MMC Ocular Max (?) Sphinx/Mirage supposedly coming from China--it's been awhile now though, so I doubt it'll ever show up--and I may keep searching for an MP Ratchet (or buy another KO Iron-hide and paint it), but I do believe I'm done.
My thoughts on some of the more popular/spendy toys I bought: I got a great deal on a BadCube Trailbreaker/Speedbump, an FT Willis/Hound and a Generation Toys "J4ZZ." It's a mixed bag there. I like the Jazz a lot. His transformation is simple, he's sturdy and really well designed. He feels "cheaper" than his price-point though, especially when compared to Willis. Speaking of which, that toy is pretty sweet. It's heavy and feels unbreakable...and yet it's apparently the exact opposite of that. Mine's doing just fine, but I keep reading of others who've broken it. Finally, Speedbump was a bit of a disappointment. Fiddly transformation and some cheap bits. It looks great though. In the end, I look at the three of them and realize they're just not worth the cash I paid, let alone the higher prices others are paying. Surprisingly, my favorite of the entire lot is a KO. It's the "Tanaka Tony Robot-formers Iron Hide." I got it for less than $30 and it's a wonderful toy. No issues, no flaws and fun to transform and dick around with. Anyway, so I guess what I'm saying is that a decent MP Transformers collection can be had on the relative cheap. For me though, not cheap enough. I know, I know...I'm a Philistine and butthole. |

I need a stewerd to guide me through getting this started from my research its a logistical nightmare to sot through it all and get the version, style guys you want. My main thing is scale, I mostly want the ones that are Joe scale or pass the closest, I will take a small hit on scale to get a real good version but it has to sort of be back ground passable to Joes and Marvel 4 inch. So if you plan on keeping this thread going I will participate as the new guy learner. One thing I want fast or first is my son keeps on about we need a "bot mode" for the SDCC Soundwave Hisstank. any suggestions for that?

I figure a prime, ultra magnus, megatron, starscream/ seekers, Soundwave, bumble bee,a corvette gjy, a jeep guy, Some dino bots and one or two of the monster shit like Fort max and we would be good.
My boy is also nuts about rescuebots, are their primo versions of any of those guys in a passable scale?

It's nice to know that it can be done relatively cheap. I've considered starting a small collection of my favourite/the most iconic Transformers for display purposes - something like 5 each of autobots and decepticons. I had looked at the Masterpiece series, but you've already given me more info to go on.

Hopefully this thread gains some traction..........
I have been a strict Joe collector for many moons now. Over my Christmas break I made the huge mistake of watching the 86' TF movie with my 7 year old. While it was great to spend time with him, it was a big mistake for my wallet. I somehow convinced myself that I could start collecting MP scale transformers, and if done right, it wouldn't be that expensive for me. Well +$1000 later, I realized that I have soooo many more figures to collect to get a simple 84-86 figure collection. My wife refers to this as "white girl problems." Anyway, like the previous posts have mentioned, there are many great KO's and 3rd party KO's out there for the taking. I am arguably the cheapest man alive and if I can get a comparable toy for less money, I'm all over it. My only official Transformers are MP Soundwave with the 5 tapes and a Takara UW Devastator. Good luck to all of you Joe collectors dabbling in MP Transformers, your wallet is going to hate you. |

That is one awesome looking robot! They have a KO version of the same toy coming out soon. In fact Scapper is actually out now and Scavenger is up for pre-order. They even have a KO of the clear version coming out too. They are running like 15-20$ shipped per figure. They will be released over the next few months, 1 figure at a time. Keep in mind that the KO version is not the quality of the original. However, spending $120 instead $600 scratches all of my frugal itches. |
