IDIOCRACY!!! Oh well whatever. I seriously doubt this will affect any of us too badly. Although, I think this is just the beginning of stupidity....wait until 1/20/09.

I'm sort of confused here though... when exactly was the last GI JOE figure made in America anyway? You don't actually think the figures are or were manufactured in Pawtucket, RI do ya?
Anyway, Hasbro has never had any toys test positive for lead. And to reiterate my earlier post... IT DOES NOT MATTER FOR OUR CONCERNS! Last edited by Dake; 01-08-2009 at 11:01 AM.. |

HERE is a Gov PDF that, in short, says that this only applies to toys manufactured after this date and is not to be applied retroactively unless the toys or products in question were already banned.
(Courtesy of a find by Fortmax over at The Allspark). This section caught my eye: "On balance, it appears that the 600ppm lead limit applies to product in inventory or on store shelves as of the effective date... while case law suggests that in determining this issue the courts will take a demanding approach to finding unambiguous direction from Congress to apply laws retroactively..." This reads that ultimately the whole issue is grey and will end up in the courts, and until then we really don't know. Keep in mind the language here speaks to things currently in the distribution chain or in inventory. It does not speak to used items that will be obtained, or put up for sale at a later date (ie: when a parent sells some toys and clothes to Once Upon a Child 10 months from now, or if you want to sell your Joes in two years.)

Well right now would be the time to unload some stuff on E bay. If there is enough fear right now then the prices will go to the moon. People who have been holding off for those Terrordromes or faggs will have to get them now. People who have them will consider selling now knowing they can get more money.

Some Toys With Banned Plastics Will Stay on Market - washingtonpost.com
Looks as if it applies to toys containing that specific chemical. Also, I have not seen any warnings on the eBay listings page about posting toys after that date. And they usually display a warning if you're approaching the cutoff date for some asinine rule or other. If eBay isn't planning on preventing people posting things, then you can still sell them there.

The news said that the only way to sell a used children's product (this includes clothes, carseats, ANYTHING for children under 12) is to have it tested for lead, with testing costing $25-$100 per item.
WTF is wrong with congress? Way to help the economy by hamstringing people who buy second hand stuff for their family. Items that are hand made, like a lot of the childrens toys in question fall into each one is a new batch, cause there is no assembly line. |

This is stupid! What if you buy used toys for adults? Who is going to determine which items are childrens' toys? Why wouldn't make a list of toys with lead in them and just restrict those items?
