Mattel did the Battle Force 5 stuff a couple of years ago, that was neat in concept. In execution, they were boring & fell short of thier potential.
IMHO, the problem today is that there isnt the calibre of designers & engineers as back in the day, or the corporate economics/politics of today render today's toy creators impotent. The lack of creativity or restricted creativity, whichever the case may be, has created toy concepts that kids today won't care to remember as part of their childhood.

I'd take a jayce and the wheeled warriors update, bravestar and Centurions also for that matter but an updated mask line in 1:18th scale would be da bomb

Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P. |

The Human Aliance stuff strongly suggests that a new M.A.S.K. Line will soon follow. I actually don't have a problem with the smaller scale figures, It just needs some refining.

I'll say it right now: Joe-scale MASK would suck, because most of the vehicles would never make it to shelves (especially if Hasbro was making the line). That having been said, I'd be perfectly fine with just figures, but that (to me) would defeat the purpose of the line in the first place.
As for some of the other 80's properties mentioned...the reason we haven't seen them is likely because they weren't that popular. Certainly not enough to have the kind of staying power that other lines have had. Let's not forget that most of those toy lines only lasted about a year...maybe two. |

Hasbro also looks at these lines as "Self-Marketing" lines.
Sure there are movies, but for the Non-collector adults out there that are around my age (39)who have children between 6 & 12, they count on our age group to advertise the lined that we grew up with to our children. "Hey Billy, look at these! Dad played with Gi Joe when I was Your age. These are really fun!" etc...... Plus, with so many choices these days, no set Cartoon viewing times (after school, & Saturday Morning), video games, most new toy lines don't get the same substance that SW, GI JOE, MOTU, and Transformers got in the 80's. No deep interest between TV & the Toys, not to mention comics as well.

Man, I've been tempted many times to get some of these, but I just don't need to get into collecting something else. Neat concept, though, and it does remind me of MASK.

What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. -- Ecclesiastes 1:9 (Note: I'm merely mentioning a quote that is relevant to the conversation and citing the source; this is not a religious discussion.) I basically collect Joes due to nostalgia, as well as some SW. I *try* to keep everything simple and just base my collection on nostalgia, although that doesn't work all the time. So it doesn't bother me one way or another about what's out there, except that I have 3 boys and it's kind of fun shopping for them and seeing what they like. My oldest likes Bakugan somewhat, and I'm not sure what it is all about but it reminds me of a mix of Transformers and Pokemon. NERF has come a long way since I was a kid, and I really dig some of the guns, but so do my 7 and 4 year olds. The way I see it is, most toys are rehashes of the same old thing, just boxed differently. Like someone said, 1982 GI Joe wasn't a completely new concept, and neither was SW. George Lucas has been very forthright in describing how he got the idea for the legend.

As a kid i didn't have a lot of the things i am able to buy now, so i don't mind the rehashes. Plus i love the gi joe property and i didn't collect star wars as a kid so it is new to me.
Plus as far as joe is comcerned, we are getting some new characters in the line such as Shadow Tracker, Shock Troopers, Volcano Vipers, Data Vipers, and the upcoming zombies (yeah, the idea of zobies isn't new but still).

This is what my collection is about also. I did collect some SW as a kid, but I never had the AT-AT. I kept thinking I'd just get one off of eBay, but then something would come up and I'd have to put it off. When they released the big AT-AT last year, I was all over that.
