Before they started making them unrealistic so that the cops wouldn't shoot them?

When I was 13, my neighbor asked to borrow my water gun. I didn't see him for almost two years after that. When he finally reappeared, he told me he had just spent the last year and 1/2 in jail for trying to hold up a gas station with the toy gun. True story.

Very realistic, I still have a few cap guns from when I was younger, heck the Toy stores, I'm from the midwest, so my specific Toy store growing up was Childrens Palace, they used to have an entire isle dedicated to toy guns and dress up play, like army gear, cowboys and indian gear, etc. You could get a cap gun that looked just like the real thing. Then they started putting red caps at the end of the barrels, but anyone could easily pry them off.

I've heard of people being shot by cops cause they thought the toy guns we're real.

My friends and I used to play "guns"...you know, run around, hide, and pretend to shoot each other (backyards, woods, etc). At some point (probably when the guns broke or whatever) we used sticks. We'd purposely look for sticks that we could pretend were guns...with our imagination. Weird, I know.

oh man I had a toy 9mm that looked pretty damn real. I also remember an old bolt action gun that when you pulled the bolt back you could see a bullet in there. So many were die cast and not plastic making them look even more real and if the little red x was easy to pop out. That was the first thing I did. The bad thing is when I remember as a child seeing the news the toy guns that they showed were so far fetched that I didn't at the time see how they could mistake that. Being older now thinking if I was in the same high stress possible life or death situation as the officers I'd shoot too.

Remember the water guns the guys from Airheads used to take over the radio station? I had one similar.

I had a .45 longslide that shot those little yellow balls (just a tad larger than BBs). That was cool. Even after it broke I played army with it with my buds in the woods behind my house. We pretended to be LRRPs in 'Nam or on some Braddock style mission. My buddies would usually make me the commander as they had M-16s, etc and the .45 made me look kinda' like Hawk v2
