Never! I am a glory hound shameless self promoter badly in need of attention!
Jk. I agree and no offense to anyone who post several threads on one day I don't I've ever done that but wouldn't be surprised if I did. I do link my threads to previous threads due to the continuation of my ongoing joeverse storyline. Sometimes ppl comment on previous threads in the same day. That means more glory for lance. Yeah I know, I have issues... |

what i am saying is that if we post more the 1 custom a day it bumpeds other ppls work to the next page and if your gone for a day you have to go to page 3 or more to see it.
Customizing has blown up big time and i know everyone is tiring there hand at it. so we should try and help each other out by putting our work for that DAY in one topic then the next day do the same. to save space and have more ppls work shown and easier to find.

I'm not sure I see the problem here. I look 10 or more pages deep sometimes to make sure I didn't miss something. And I use the search function to look up specific characters I'm interested in. |

I get what you're saying, xhairs, but I 100% disagree. I know you've PMed me about this before as I'm one of the guys guilty of this. Yes, I realize it can flood the front page and become annoying.
Why do I disagree? Archival and search purposes, for one. And I've personally been asked by Echo7Solo to put all my new customs in a single thread per custom, and here's why: in the future, he hasn't stated precisely, but I'd imagine he's working on a new organizational system. If you wanted to search all Monkeywrench customs, for example, they could be sorted by figure name. Or, you could sort by customizer. Just like iTunes. The other reason is that Tankers are ADHD and I want feedback per custom. Specific feedback. When more than one custom gets put into a thread, sometimes I feel like it doesn't get specific feedback that it may deserve. I for one appreciate "looks good" comments, but if you're posting multiples in one thread, how will you know? They can't all be the same level. So you get more precise feedback when it's one per thread as well. Finally, I often wait until I'm done with 4-5 customs to photograph them. Setup takes time, photography takes time, cropping photos and adjusting lighting takes time, and even uploading and creating the threads takes time. I don't like wasting my own time, so I consolidate and do it all in night usually. I also post at like 2am PST, so that it's not flooding the board during peak hours. Something that I wish more customizers would do up front (instead of posting multiples in one thread) is to list the parts/recipe in the first few posts. Eventually, it may be a possibility to search by parts usage. (i.e. "What figures are made using RoC Hawk parts?") |

Good points all around, but I do have to agree with Mandingo Rex, if any form of a customs index is implemented, it'll be messy clicking on a link for someone's Starduster and seeing a thread with 4 different customs in it.
That's not to say it can't be done that way, it'll just be messy and slightly annoying if you only want to see one custom and you have to dig through multiple posts in the thread to see the one custom you're looking for. Maybe a good compromise is to have all the customizers only post a few customs everyday? or just every few hours? (I dunno, I'm just spit balling here ) |

Eventually, it may be a possibility to search by parts usage. (i.e. "What figures are made using RoC Hawk parts?") if thats what they are going to do then it would be more of a archive thing like joe customs has and has nothing to do with the main board. also if they do it by the user name why not have your work in a few pages then a billion? yes your customs take time and no one says other wise. but how would you feel if you went through all that work and you posted 5 customs and 5 other ppl posted 5 customs and knocked your work to page 5 and not many ppl look past page 1 sometimes. this would make it easier for all involved. yes we all want feedback on our work but is it fair to take away from other works? also this is by your own choice there is no rules saying it i just asking everyone to see what they say. just a suggestion, if the future plans are to have an index, i think the simplest approach would be a separate gallery outside of the forum. ala joecustoms.
let the customizer do the archiving, they enter their custom in the gallery with certain criteria, only so many pics, must include recipes and/or breif description. Alternatively the customizer can post in the forum to garner any feedback/criticism as we do now. seems like a win/win. can keep the forum rather unclogged while still generating feedback. Can search the gallery for specific customs and recipes, saves the MODS the work of archiving/indexing. although it doesn't address MR's specific feedback for specific custom concern, seems like the easiest method to satisfy just about all the concerns. M.R. from now one a vow to give you feedback as specific as possible Last edited by mswi; 05-20-2010 at 09:45 PM.. |

Now, one area that I do think shouldn't have a full thread, is if you've only made minor tweaks to figures. I created a thread specifically for any and all minor tweaks or repaints that I felt didn't deserve their own thread. GI Eddie did the same, which made me create mine.
I also created a single thread to list my other customs in, as a sort of thread list. For someone like CobraCollector (who did this very thing and is a good example of how I think it was done right) who has over 100 customs, this makes searching his customs a lot easier by character name. My thread is similar, but I need to revise mine so that all the customs are listed in the first post like his. That thread, like his, is linked in my sig and helps folks look at all my customs, if they're so inclined. I do hope we get a revised orgainzation for the customs section, because it's my favorite part of the Tank. It also serves as an excellent research tool for when you're looking for inspiration or reference prior to starting a custom. The search function, and even Google, don't always provide very precise or extensive search results. |

ok MR i see what your saying but that in lie the prob most ppl look at our work to get ideas of how we did this or that or how cool looking it is. i know for one i wont post on more then one custom wheni se that person has posted 5 customs in one day and ill say in the one topic about all there work at once. same with your work . i like alot of it but will only comment on one of them for all of them. so it is a dubble edge sword.
wouldnt you rather have feedback on all then just a few? i know thats why i post my work like i do. this really comes down to what the many want over the few dose it. . Last edited by xhairs; 05-20-2010 at 09:59 PM.. |

yes we all want feedback on our work but is it fair to take away from other works? also this is by your own choice there is no rules saying it i just asking everyone to see what they say. While there is a lot on here that I don't agree with, the customs section and its members is one of its biggest assets. Sure, not everyone posts the hottest customs and I've read on other sites where they make fun of Tankers for posting "subpar" work on here, but I think that customizers can only improve with practice, so the more threads that get posted, the better. If you have to dig to find topics, that just means it's busy here. Other boards keep the same threads on the first page simply because there's not as much traffic, so they never get bumped. Plus, you still have to dig there to find other threads |
