Isn’t that always the shit that happens when some dictator takes over? There were people in Paris cheering for fucking Hitler for Christ’s sake. That’s how you set up a story like this.

Duke was always a lame one dimensional character in the comic. I don't think he even played that big of a role. Even Hama admitted he never really knew what to do with him. Hawk was a better commander. Flint and Stalker made way more interesting characters leading in the field.

Then why not set it in another country? In the Full Force Podcast Allor also joked about the elections. It's painfully obvious that's what he's intending it to be. Allor even said Hasbro suggested that the book feature Cobra having taken over a country and having more full scale war, but Allor decided to pitch this Antifa story instead, thinking it'd be a twist.

Hama didn't use Duke because Hawk existed; it's not a valid argument. That was the sole reason Hama didn't use him. This is a different continuity, and Duke was the main character in the Sunbow cartoon. It's liking taking a dump on Optimus Prime and saying, only Hotrod matters. The fact is, Duke was also absent from the Sitterson run and now the current run. Why is that?
Since you bring up Optimus Prime, he was killed off in the beginning of the Transformers movie. Duke was killed off in the GI Joe animated movie, but rewritten to just be in a coma after Optimus made kiddies sad. It isn't like the precedent for this isn't there, but all you seem to want to see is an agenda to be mad at and to keep bringing up the shitty sitterson book.

If the original series came out now people would be reading into it and complaining also... because Hama has the exact same politics today as he did then. This is the same story lol. It was always anti-fascist, pro-progressive, pro-diversity. I think it hits a nerve because people realize this was never written for them.
I agree that we need more info in the following issues to flesh things out and really give context. Allor actually excels at that (like in his previous joe issues) so I have faith. Tiger may be the eyes which we see the story from but this is clearly about a team. I imagine everyone can find at least one character they connect with. Bludd and Scarlett look dope!! |

I am withholding final judgment until a few issues have dropped, however, the use of preexisting Joe looks for what are clearly different characters or characterizations was jarring (looking at you Frontier, I love the character concept story-wise just not the fact that he is clearly meant to look just like Flint, down to the character page at the end being the old file card pose). If the core concept is changed and most of your core characters are gone or characterized differently why not make it a different book? Imagine if Devil's Due had attempted to shoehorn G.I. Joe into the SPOOKS concept? It might have worked but it would have taken some getting used to, which is why giving the book at least 2 more issues is my COA.
As far as the political posturing in the thread and in the book, welcome to the world of modern comics. This has always been a thing in comics, they are a reflection of their writers and the writers' world views. Remember that before we had Hydra Cap, we had Lizard Overlord President Reagan. As to your second point, and Edhellman's point about Larry above it, I agree there has always been an air of progressiveness in comics. For anyone who doubts, go pick up some Marvel titles from the late 60's, 70's and read Stan Lees blurbs (bullpen bulletins I think it was called?) and responses to letters.
