Lately, I've been thinking about picking up the title. Is ARAH worth reading? I'd like to hear everyone's opinion. Bear in mind, Zandar & Zarana are my big dealbreakers, but I want to support GI Joe and help make sure we still get a Joe comic (or two) every month, even if one new reader is just a drop in the ocean. Go ahead, woo me to ARAH.

This is amazing! We're getting a ZANDAR figure! ZANDAR featured prominently in the Cobra Commander series! Character development! It's a great time to be a Zandar fan! Thank you, Hasbro!!! |

My personal opinion is "no."
It sounded like a great idea but the execution was lacking. Same as Furman and Wildman bring back Transformers in ReGneration one. Sometimes you just get lightning in a bottle and it can't be done again. |

A new story arc starts this issue in the old "special missions" format. It is a good time to pick one up and see what you think.

It is a good time to start. I'm along for whatever Hama wants to do... That said, the run has been largely disappointing.
Mostly Larry has fallen into his bad habits/obsessions rather than following his best impulses. The Dawn storyline is not as bad as advertised, but also not exactly "good." The best points in his picked-up run have been the storylines with the women: Bombstrike, etc. And also the Dr. Burkhardt storyline with Muskrat, Alpine, Long Range, etc. Next issue begins a new "Special Missions" arc featuring Stalker! Hope springs eternal! (Also, the Special Missions have always been more of a highlight of his work for me than the ninja mythology...) Zarana is on the next cover, I think! I doubt you'll find Zandar, but if it makes you feel better, everyone always forgets Zandar. He's probably in the background or in the shadows of one panel or another if you look hard enough (and use your imagination!). |

Yeah. The new "half" of the series will actually have doubled the run of the original ARAH in a few years from now. Larry has picked up a lot of old plot threads, resolved forgotten ones, and moved the story forward in unique ways. Being able to get the continuation of this story is one of the miracles of modern comic books. It's not always consistent but most writers only have a dozen issues before their vision fades. Here we get to watch one of comic's great writers finally cut loose of storytelling constraints and making the characters his own in ways which were arguable twenty years ago. It's not here to pander to us. You should not miss it.

Yes, I've enjoyed this second run quite a bit and the most recent arc was great! That said, #251 (out today) is almost unreadable. The art is horrific.

Art is a huge part of the story for me. Otherwise I would just read a book. So after Netho Diaz's amazing run, this artist is a huge letdown. Thankfully its only for the one issue.
