hey, gang, i know most everybody here is more a toy fan than a comic fan but i have to ask; is anyone enjoying , or thinking about picking up, recent issues of the cobra world order arc? jem and the holograms outsells ARAH by 20,000. that just doesn't seem right for a comic that once was a top-selling comic.

I buy it and will do so until that universe ends.
...but it still sucks. Can't imagine moreso than Jem, though. Who reads that, Bronies?

Most of that has to do with multiple covers. ARAH usually has two covers per issue whereas Jem had atleast six for the first issue. I would'nt follow those sales numbers that closely. IDW does that alot on all their books it makes ordering from Previews alot of fun.

...but it still sucks. I long gave up on the ARAH story, it was never very good in the whole, but did have some small highlights. The new extension seemed decent until the stupid red shadows garbage. |

I was more a comic guy than a toy guy (the kind of outcome that likely would drive a Hasbro marketer nuts), but here's my 'heretical' comment: I don't think Hama was consistently that good. He deserves credit for giving the franchise momentum and he had flashes of brilliance, but a lot of his product in the original run felt forced, and nothing about his new stuff has captivated me. To me, loyalty is a two way street. If the producers can't put out a consistently good product, then I won't consistently support it.

I am both. I think Hama has been doing a better job with the stories since he came back to the title. The first time around he always had Hasbro pushing new characters on him, to use in the comic books. That being said. I happen to have every issue of the ARAH comic run and have completely read it multiple times.

I still read the IDW run, mostly since I have every issue since 1, although 11 was my first issue from the newsstand, and it was my gateway drug for comics, so I feel some strange desire to keep going.
The current run is fine.... and I still like when he makes nods to old plot lines from the Marvel run. The Marvel run is like comfort food for me. I still like to read it and let the nostalgia run over me. I realize it's not great, but I can still look at it with 6 year old eyes and it defines GI Joe for me more than the cartoon ever did. Which is strange, since I have the opposite feeling about the Transformers, TV show defines them for me. |

I love the current run of ARAH and am very excited to read the rest of CWO. I think Hama is a better writer than most of what DC and Marvel have and still find it odd that in 2015 I'm still reading the original Joe continuity, while so many other titles I love have been rebooted into complete bullshit.

Didn't Jem just start? Most comics sell better at the beginning and around certain "event" issues and then taper off. ARAH is the definitive Joe, and it always will be the "real" Joe as far as I'm concerned. That said, it is admittedly one of the weaker comics out there. There are a handful of issues that are very memorable and well-written, but much of it is rather forgettable.
GI Joe doesn't really have any truly great comics... And by that I mean genre-defining classics on par with DKR, Kingdom Come, Preacher, etc. The best Joe ever written was the "Cobra" miniseries, oddly enough, and I wish we could get more intense character studies like that. |

I miss "Special Missions". The OLD original "Special Missions", where a team of lesser known Joes are put in a mission of various type depending on their specialties and save the day.
