Well if you like racism, sexism, bad overused jokes, a pastel color palette, plot inconsistencies, continuity errors, sub-standard art, bad outfit designs, and the entire concept and execution of the character Hashtag then no I guess it isn't bad at all.
CBR gave the issue 1 and a half stars: Review: G.I Joe #1 - Comic Book Resources I like the coloring of the book. The art, like I said, especially with the faces was inconsistent and I hope that gets better. I'm okay with both the uniforms and Hashtag as they have been presented with the government "marketing" the Joes. I bought into it. Yes, unrealistic, but I'll accept that as reasoning. I don't like continuity errors or plot errors. I didn't really notice anything. But please tell me what I missed. I honestly want to know. CBR's review was mostly on point. But basically a full paragraph devoted to a grip with the american flag was overkill and not warranted. Hell, I didn't notice the error. 1 1/2 stars was too low. It isn't a 4/5 star but a solid 3. 2 1/2 lowest.

I never disputed that. She is a former fashion model though, not a former playboy model. Fashion models are generally more slender and not as busty or as wide in the hips as she was portrayed.

Okay, well the next time you are at your job refer to people you work with that are not the same race as you as "Asian brothers" or "black brothers" "Mexican brothers" etc, and let me know how that plays out. Also, that isn't so much racist is the line given in the preview pages that states that the roster was chosen because of their Ethnic background. Last I heard that is not legal in the United States. People should be hired or chosen for their skill. Not because they need an Asian. I understand this sometimes happens in life but to have that blatantly said I thought was in extremely poor taste. A more politically correct statement something along the lines of "We chose this team because of their skill and diversity." Pointing out their ethnic background as a reason for selection was not necessary and offensive. Well for one...Shipwreck acts as if he never wore his sailor's uniform before and he has. One example. 22,G.I. Joe,G.I. Joe Comic Book Archive | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond! I'd just point out that even if you are behind, this renumbering is basically a reboot. It is taking Joe in a new direction and you certainly do not need all the background from previous comics to get into this story. I was way behind, like I had never read a Joe comic since the marvel run. But in the last 4-5 months I picked up every issue and caught up. Ya, I invested a lot, but it was worth it. Especially Cobra. If there was one thing to read, it would be the complete Cobra series with Chuckles that just came out. Best. Joe. Comic. Ever.

I saw this issue on a shelf at local collectible store picked up read it an nearly BLEW CHUNKS. Not only is this drek horribly written, its looks liek pre schoolers drew the art and really...Hashtag? Firewall and Daemon made sense...Hashtag is like a TMZ liason for this horrible joe team idea. IDW needs ot have the joe license stripped from them forEVER!!!!

I like it. not exactly my favorite comic of g.i.joe but it shows the effort and intention to please the joe fans.
I liked all the characters, but really the thing with hastashg is ugly but not new, Scoop existed and there have been always war correspondents this is a thing of the times. The design is something that troubles me too, i would prefered a sci fi military setup than a "superhero team" uniform but it's not something that really bothers me. the issue was fast and had a good cliffhanger. One thing i notice always is the editorial problems, not only joe fans are negative and hipercritical but they have a point sometimes so we have to be patient and IWD has to put an even better product. |

Baroness isn't going to be the primary villain, she is just featured in the first arc. And I don't recall many continuity errors, just a lot of loose ends. Like Dice, and the moon base. |

I was about to give up reading GI Joe and expected this to stink but I really enjoyed it and look forward to issue 2. It's new, different, modern and still has a comicbook feel. Some of it made little sense like Hashtag or Doc but let's see where it goes.
It actually reminded me of the GI Joe Resolute cartoon. Last edited by hedrock; 02-26-2013 at 08:38 PM.. |

I liked the first issue and expected much worse based on the feedback so far. I never full embraced Dixon's version of GI Joe as a super covert team who members are presumed dead. GI Joe was never about that. Conversely, I'm not entirely on board with the extreme sense of publicity given to this team with a field blogger (how does that make sense tactically), marketing, action figures (wouldn't a kid be devestated thier favorite toy hero is KIA?). If Van Lente can massage those elements, this book can have a great run.
I felt Dixon's run was decompressed. This first issue had a much better pace, on par with the action in Hama's title. The art worked for me. It was also mentioned in the column by John Barber at the end of the book. |
