I understand that from a business standpoint Hasbro has to offer a variety to fit all budgets and levels of interest. Not every parent is willing or able to spend $50 on a Megatron, so when little Suzy wants one, Hasbro offers a Leader class, Voyager class, and depending on the figure a Deluxe, Scout and or Legends class (The tiny ones). I understand this, it makes sense.
What bothers me and has always bothered me is that the vehicles are rarely built to scale. Take the new movie line for example: The motorcycles are the same size as the cars, a Raptor jet is the same size as a pickup truck. I realize that in the Sunbow cartoons and in the comics, they have the ability to shrink down or expand; Megatron can be a giant gun or a real sized gun etc.. But as for the Movie toys, Micheal bay said specifically that he wanted the Tranformers to always maintain the same mass, which is why they chose a long nose model truck for Optimus, to have more mass. If everything was 1:18 scale it would get ridiculous very fast, we all know how big a true 1:18 vehicle can get and what about a character like Devastator or Omega Supreme? There are always going to be exceptions. Well, why not 1:24 scale? My point is, that as a Hardcore collector, I would love to have a set of Transformers toys that don't look silly when they are side by side, I want a semi truck, a sports car, motorcycle and yes even a jet, to look normal when they sit on my display case. I am even willing to compromise, make starscream the size of a semi truck or tank, just don't make him the same size as camaro. |

Yup; that was the main reason I didn't like my Transformers back in the day. I remember finally getting all my Constructicons and being so disappointed at how small Devastator was compared to my other Transformers. LOL. They should just make a online only collector's line where everything is 1:32 scale.

That was my biggest complaint when I was a kid. That Bumblebee, and Sideswipe, and Optimus weren't even the same scale.

I SO agree with you. This is why I was into Transformers when they first came out in the 80s but quickly lost interest. It is also why I rarely pick one up these days.
I think they look really awesome but the scale difference even between figures in the same class really frustrates me. Sometimes I simply can't resist the special ones like the alternators or Masterpiece versions but for the most part the scale issues keep me out of Transformers. Ohh.. Speaking of a disapontment. I went to BK yesterday and picked up a Kids Meal Devestator. If they think they are going to entice kids into the property with this crap they are selling they should think again. I know its a Kids Meal toy but still. This thing sucked worse than the 80's McDonald's Happy Meal Transformers that I was pissed about back then.

I wouldnt say that it pisses me off, but at the same time I agree that there should at least be 1 line that is size appropriate. Back in the day it made sense costwise as there werent that many adult collectors of the stuff, but now that all of us who grew up with Transformers have grown up and can afford to drop $$$ on em, I want a Devastator and a Bruticus, and hell throw a Predaking in there that are in scale....aside from all of the rest of em.

One could argue that they were made like that on purpose as the cartoon was an advertisement for the toys. However, they are in the scale in the new movies. TF should be in scale period. That is one of the biggest turn-offs towards the line from many, many people. That Is also why the first series of G1 is the most popular as they are all in the same scale.

Transformers Animated actually does a pretty good job of keeping everything to scale (except for Prowl). As a result, the Decepticons, being mostly military vehicles, are MASSIVELY bigger than the Autobots. Even Prime is a middleweight compared to most of them. Because the designers of the show worked so closely with the designers of the cartoon, the scale is mirrored and even Starscream, who's a middleweight compared to Megatron, can believably hold his own against even the Autobot Elite Guard. Makes the fights a heck of a lot more interesting.

well other than laserbeak being an electric guitar. I think it would rock to have some in the G.I. joe scale. Y'know, have it so you could fit a 3 3/4 in starscreams cockpit.
