As a kid, me and this kid that lived down the street made up some story about Copperhead and Gung Ho, which I guess was based solely on the fact that Gung Ho had a quote on Copperhead's file card. We somehow inferred that Copperhead had been a Joe, and because of the gambling debts that Gung Ho mentioned, had to go to Cobra for quick cash. The Sunbow 2 parter "The Traitor" might have inspired us too. I dunno, we weren't too bright. But it added a bit to a guy that had a great look but no characterization at all.

I really hate the way so many Cobra characters were killed off in the infamous freighter after the Cobra civil war.
I feel there was a lot of character potential in there that the writers just got tired of keeping track of, so they killed a bunch off. Similar to how they did BF2000 on the Joe side. I get this wasn't supposed to be like superheroes where no one is really dead, but I wanted a lot of those guys to come back. Something I think they missed on was with the new versions of figures that were introduced that didn't look anything like previous versions. I feel they could have kept the code names, and introduced new people in those roles. They could have simply said the old versions had retired (or worse), and the code name was more of a title or mantle that could be used by others with similar specialties. |

It's the "Boba Fett Syndrome". Fans think they want MOAR MOAR MOAR until they get it, and it's not the same, or doesn't live up to their preconceived notions.
On that note, I got super-excited last week to read that "Heat" is getting a prequel / sequel novel, and I can't wait to read it, but I don't want any of those characters "spoiled". But the upside is that Michael Mann himself is writing it, so I'm confident he "won't pull a Lucas". "I'VE WAITED 40 YEARS TO FIND OUT WHERE HAN GOT THOSE GOLD DICE" said no one ever. Quote:

And, yet, this fits him too. Quote:

Not sure if my sense of lore qualifies, but going back to the M.A.S.S. Device mini, I imagine that a relationship developed between Destro and Scarlett after he abducted her. Definitely not a Hasbro-friendly relationship, and enough to make Snake-Eyes cuss. Maybe she even joined M.A.R.S. To this day, when Destro and Scarlett have new figures, I buy them together. |

So, this is purely in my mind with no real world evidence, but I always had an issue with Falcon's drug addiction in the cartoon.
So, I structured a plot line wherein the events of the 87 movie were somewhat reconciled with that event. After his creation, Serpentor starts having vague memories of Cobra LA, as referenced in the movie. Mindbender, not wanting to admit this is simply a side effect of the fucked genetic jambalaya he created, starts developing mind expanding drugs for Serpentor in hopes of bringing these hazy dreams into focus. And it works- so essentially the events of the 87 movie are a drug induced fever dream of Serpentor. As such, Mindbender and Serpentor become obsessed with finding it. Falcon becomes Mindbender's focal point, as to that point, no such Joe as known to Cobra. Upon finding that the joe team had indeed recruited a soldier codename Falcon, it only served to fuel the belief that this dream had to be real- as Serpentor would not have known of Falcon's existence at that time. After Serpentor's death, Mindbender carried on, but needed a new subject to continue his research in the form of recording and evaluating the Cobra LA dreams in the brainwave scanner. As such, mindbender employs the Headhunters to flood his hallucinogenic onto the streets, hoping new candidates will reveal themselves. Finding that the drugs aren't having the hallucinogenic effect on others, Mindbender shifts his focus. Believing Falcon to be the key, given his unexplained presence in Serpentor's dreams, Mindbender has Falcon abducted and forces the drugs on him. This is also aided by the fact that as a kid, I thought unmasked Serpentor and Falcon looked the same, so at some point I would have established a genetic connection between them. But Kindle Worlds went tits up and I never finished the story.

What a great idea for a thread! I love some of the ideas on here!
So I'm going to share some "fanon" that I swiped from somebody like 25 years ago: My initial days of having the internet were mainly spent on yojoe.com, and while I don't remember interacting much, I would often read through the forums. While talking about issue #3 of the original comics, one of the guys on the forum said that because of that issue he's always envisioned Clutch, Breaker, and Steeler as the Joes' Three Musketeers, or Three Stooges to a much less silly degree. I hadn't read the issue, but after digging around I found some scans online. After reading it I decided I loved the concept, and it's stuck in my headcanon ever since. Hell, Clutch, Breaker, and Steeler became some of my favorite Joes BECAUSE of this idea. I wish I'd have paid more attention to who the guy was that brought the idea up, but I've long since forgotten his username. But even though I can't remember, his fancanon of these three Joes will always be a part of my Joe world. Last edited by Matt82; 01-24-2022 at 09:53 PM.. |

I actually burst out laughing at this. Too true. Book of Boba Fett is the Boba Fett absolutely nobody asked for or saw coming.
It would be like if we asked for a new GI Joe series, and when they gave it to us, Cobra Commander took his hood off and became an opera singer. Quote:
