If it's as easy as a single thin coat of matte mod podge to reduce the "battle-lip gloss" and plastic eyebrows look, that's good to know, for non-customizers as well as customizers. Thanks for dropping that hint.

To have the webgear fit over the shirt, I slit the sides, cut some grooves on the inside (left image), glued braided elastic in there (middle image), then glued some electrical tape over the ends for added strength (right image). There is a small gap, but that won't be obvious I'm fixin' to paint it all black anyway.
I tested it and sure enough, it slides over the shoulders without heating. I've tested it with a shirt that is a little rough, but the final will look better at the edges, and I'm planning on having a different cut to the shirt anyway to have more Roadblock muscle showing. |

Wow—I would have usually said no to soft goods, but it’s fitting well and the camo pattern on it looks good!

LJ was not a full face repaint, but involved the following: scrubbing off factory lip paint, scrubbing off where lower irises covered the lower eyelids (compare left with middle pictures below), removing bangs leaving the right eye partially undone as a result; and painting: extending the right eyebrow, then finishing the right eye's sclera and lashes, light touch up to the eyeliner on the left eye as well, and painting the lips. Most importantly, extending the irises to be wider at the upper eyelid margin -Gotta have the irises partially covered by the upper eyelids or it looks wierd.
Love what you did with LJ’s head sculpt!!!

For the Classified Roadblock web gear above, I showed a use for braided elastic and electrical tape. This post and the next are about how I learned to use that trick.
I first started making vests and web gear with a Clutch custom two years ago, using parts stuck onto electrical tape. In those days I wanted to make vests with clasps just like Hasbro does: The vest was not easy to remove from Retaliation Clutch (the shoulder straps had to be dremeled off), but I knew his parts and pieces from the 5 POA figure had potential I kept at it. Once I got the vest parts off I had to reassemble them, but make the vest larger to fit on the Retaliation Beachhead torso. You can kind of see it in the WIP picture below, but I basically glued parts onto the sticky side of electrical tape. I was really pleased with the process on this build. Basic process in detail: Step 1: assemble parts you want for the vest Step 2: cover the intended figure in cellophane, then wrap inside out electrical tape around the figure. Step 3: place belts, pockets, ammo, whatever needed to fill all the spaces. In Clutch's case, the parts from Retaliation Clutch left gaps, and I had to fill those gaps with plastic I had cut from a Finn jacket, and additional pouches to fill the gaps around the waist. Step 4: once arranged to your liking, then glue them to the electrical tape using superglue gel. Step 5: once dry, carefully cut the electrical tape from the figure. You have to cut up the side where the open clasp is. Once free, cut the excess tape from the inside. Step 6: paint. I used a similar process on the slanted belt for this Desert Scarlett: |

Man this is more of a "How to make awesome customs thread" than a let me show off my customs thread. I love seeing WIP pictures and this thread takes it to another level. Love the breakdown in all the pictures.
