This is a great thread idea! I haven't shared much custom work, as most of the my stuff is still WIP (100 figures or so), and i'm kind of dreading the paint process, so mostly kitbashing until now. I wonder if i'll ever get around to finishing just a fraction of them.

I love Marauder figures, but I have a hard time "committing" with MGR figures, preferring to take them apart and just do parts swaps, so I have yet to actually paint any MGR figures.
I am currently toying around with doing a diesel punk/WWI-II/adventure themed group, using CFT MGR WWII and random bits. As far as brushes, I bought a couple sets of three at 5 below that were decent quality. Some company from England, I would know the name if I saw it. I have yet to find a brush "small enough" for certain things like eyes. So I started using graphic art markers for eyes. Quote:

That’s one of the things I really like about Marauders; you can swap them, paint them, or build from the pre-builds. Customizers dream for me. If hasbro presented a plan to start selling parts that were easily swappable to build your favorite characters, my head would explode. I don’t know why but brushes really interest me. I have “a lot” and tried so many before I got the results I wanted. Right now I commonly use 14 different brushes, I feel like that sounds crazy. I’m rocking a Master Touch 1/4” flat with synthetic hair to paint large amount of space, use an Army Painters set, and a set of Winsor & Newton series 7. I got lucky and they were all gifts except for the Master Touch brush. If you are looking for a brush small enough for eye details take a look at Winsor Newton series 7 size 000 or the Army Painter Wargamer: The Psycho. Both are super fine at the tip and apply well.

I know its just a matter of jumping right in, and i don't know why i haven't gotten around to it yet. I used to play miniature games (Star Wars), and painted and customized a lot of figures back then. There weren't that many details, and no moving joints, so i guess it was a lot easier.

Good idea on the thread. I just recently started posting here again after a long time off. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with doing some more customizing here and there. I think I'll probably keep working on Classified figures as they come out, but I'd like to get back into the 4" figures as well. Looks like there are a lot of good parts out there since I left off, plus I do still have some stockpiles of ME figure parts that will help.
With my customs, I stick to ME style and try to get close to each character's original look but with updated parts. So I try to evoke a classic look without needing to be exactly like it.

Firstly, congratulations kuh_rupht, That mummy was great and fully deserving of the award.
I started customising with o-ring. I passed when 25th anniversary came out (how people feel about the sculpts now I felt about them then) but when the later figures came out I felt more optimistic and jumped on board. I started using Marauder for my Action Force customs and felt they were so versatile and the parts being available in all colours meant less painting required (especially over joints!). When it became clear that Hasbro was not going to make all the GI Joe figures I wanted with the better later sculpts I decided to switch to Marauder as the base for them as well. I still have some Hasbro figures, and hopefully the retro line might add some more (fingers crossed for Roadblock!) I am just starting a modern updated Adventure Team using Marauder parts. I am sure I am not using the best paint brushes, I don't have the stores around where I live that sell anything like that so I have to buy online and hope they will be good when they get to me. Interested to hear what everyone's recommendations are. What I would say is that buying cheap brushes is a waste of money. On my thread I mentioned that I had written to Bad Mother Tattoos about doing Bazooka decals, he messaged me last night to say that he has added a sheet to his ebay store. |

My brother ordered a set of decals off eBay that had the Salvo decal and a few others that we’ve been wanting to do, he sent me the link and they were Bad Mother ones! Was like, “AF80s told me about these! Supposed to be awesome!” Haha, so I’m gonna get to mess with those sooner than later, hopefully.

This might work as Banks with a little greenstuff for the hair and beard, though it's out-of-stock atm:

Waited 6+ months for the MTF preorders to come in, and my impatience led to slicing the jacket of the blue-suited figure...all so I could paint the tie better. Tried to fix it to no avail, so I tossed it. Luckily had a brown suit jacket to replace it, but paint will be that much harder.
Just needed a place to SCREAM!!!!!
