The Silencing (2020)
The Batman vs. Dracula (2005) Agreed! One of the few masterpieces of my era. Oddly enough, the local theater played Backdraft tonight and this past Sunday as part of a 30th anniversary event. Had to talk myself out of going when I saw the concession prices ($16+ for a soda and popcorn). |

Saw "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" (2021).
Fun movie. Didn't quite resonate with me on the same level as "Black Panther"/"Captain Marvel", however. Perhaps due to not having the same sorta personal connection to the material. Having said that ... Both the character Xu Xialing & the three actresses playing her were rather fierce. And as lead villain, Tony Leung's performance is almost certainly the best in MCU movie history. Though all the films have excellent casts, of course, the roles themselves typically don't require much strenuous effort*. Especially from actresses/actors the calibre of Brie Larson or Mark Ruffalo** (who could probably play those parts in their sleep, actually). As to the movie's greater cultural significance, Kat Moon has a brilliant op-ed in "Time", further illustrating what a missed opportunity (marketing-wise) "Snake Eyes: G.I. Origins" represented: https://time.com/6095108/shang-chi-a...epresentation/ PS Oh, and speaking of scholarly works, I've been informed my article for "Psychology Today" will appear in the March 2022 issue (published the month of the Academy Awards). * Physically, yes. Mentally, no. ** Both of whom also have tremendous twitter feeds, btw ... https://twitter.com/brielarson https://twitter.com/MarkRuffalo

The following clever little horror film, less than 10 minutes long, has proven to be wildly popular within my social circle. And while, admittedly, that is a very different crowd than likely to be found here, I figured some of you may enjoy it as well. Plus, it is technically the last movie I watched, so ...
Oh, but be warned, though, this film is not for the squeamish/easily sickened. The twist at the end is quite gruesome/impossible to "unsee". At any rate, have a nice weekend, everyone.
