House of a 1000 corpses was good, Devils Rejects was absolutely awesome, he nailed the '70s grindhosue style mixed with Easy Rider kinda thing he was looking for.
Halloween on the other hand was trash, it was horrible, stupid, dumb and any other negative I can throw at it. He missed the point completely. As a HUGE (I have multiple tattoos from the films, all the original posters, VHS, DVD releases, toys models games, comic books etc) I was way more than dissapointed with what he did with the film. |

yup, the poster for the first film, Michael from H20 (design wise it was a good mask), and we are drawing up the cover of 6 to go ont he inside of my arm. Sometime in the next week or so I think we are doing the silver shamrock logo...small, and as a joke on the rest of the halloween tattoos I have.
heres a pic i have of one of them:

I never knew he did The Condemned, you learn something new everyday... I liked House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, Halloween was a real let down though, but am looking forward to seeing Halloween 2, i've seen the shorts to it & looks good, but time will tell though right ?
I like how he has the 60's & 70's Horror & Slasher thing going, it's cool. |

I thought all three movies were great. I honestly thought his take on Halloween was better than the original (blasphemy, I know). I was born in '78, so I didn't get to see the original in theaters. That may have a lot to do with it. I am sure if I was a teenager in '78 it would have made a more lasting impression.
House of 1000 Corpses & Devil's Rejects were really good horror films. I obviously didn't go in with the mindset of taking them seriously, so they met my expectations. |

The man is an unsung hero of horror movies. It doesn't look it on the surface, but his composition and use of music to set mood is masterful. House was a sick, twisted treat. It was every movie I'd been waiting for in the genre. Seriously, so many movies claim to be the darkest, most disturbing, most twisted scares around and just turn out to be limp, lukewarm crap. Zombie doesn't just make a horror movie, he has gleeful fun with it. Otis, Baby, Capt Spaulding, and even Tiny are repellant in their ways, but what they do they do with such gusto that you can't help but like them (from a distance). When I showed House to friends, the whole room went nuts at the sight of a freakish grining clown threatening an armed robber with a piece of fried chicken(!) and it just got crazier from there.
Devil's Rejects took the same characters, toned down the wackiness, and turned up the darkness and evil to 11. The cop pursuing the Firefly family is so twisted, you begin to wonder who to root for. The ending has to be one of the best I've seen in recent memory, and really seals Zombie's reputation as one of the best when it comes to using music (the entire last 12 minutes has no dialogue, just Freebird playing, and goddamnit, it works so well). Halloween took a character that was scary for his mysteriousness, and facelessness, and made him scary for a hell of a lot of other reasons, and still humanizes him. Not to the point of feeling sorry for him, but enough to know that he is human (albeit a crazy-strong one!). Oh yeah, and it had boobies, and screaming, in just theright amounts. Zombie knows what makes a good american horror movie. It's not as suspenseful as an asian horror, but it still twists your screws. It's the right balance of suspense, fast-paced terror, black humor, outright madness, gore, and boobs. It's like the ingredients of a stew, and Zombie is the head cook right now. So yeah, I'm a fan of his work, and I'm looking forward to The Haunted World of El Superbeasto (an animated film about a washed up Luchadore private detective). *the only work-safe pic I could find* |

I actually enjoyed The Devil's Rejects, I like Rob but I thought 1000 Corpses looked like crap so I never bothered to watch it. After reading a lot of good things about Rejects I picked up a used copy and enjoyed the whole thing.

next up though you should check out those comic books he did. not the greatest but a fun read. i think 'fun' is the best way to describe him. listening to white zombie though ten+ years after they broke up though and it still sounds fresh as a daisy. |
