We've grown up on some really cheesy stuff, but sometimes there are surprises along the way.
So which animated tv shows according to you'll were well written? |

Wolverine and the X-men. Hands down the best writing in American animation. Young Justice is a close second.

As much as it kills me to say this because I HATE the beep..beep...blop...Bumblebee, TF: Prime is actually a pretty well crafted story.
Beast Wars...and while everyone didn't like it I like Beast Machines as a great final dark chapter in the Beast Saga. I'm a big fan of Venture Bros. great writting on that show very funny, very clever. But one of the MOST complex, disturbing and yet still at times very funny and clever show...for me at least...is Moral Orel. A show that starts off being a simple and fun poke at religion and at times a paradoy of the classic Davey and Goliath in season one expands with each season into a DARK and often disturbing look at the characters and their lives from Orel's mom who essentially trapped her husband into marrage out of desperation and eventually was stuck in such a loveless marrage where she is so dead to everything in her life that she cleans constantly and has an affair with her sons gym coach which gives her a second child. She later is so desensitise she can't feel pleasure, and does not notice her youngest son has been replaced with some other kid. Orel's father Clay is no better he drinks to escape the same loveless marrage and clearly his quasi homosexual feels towards Orel's gym coach who is actively persuing him by undermining his issues with his wife, he even slept with Orels mom to 'get closer' to Clay. Coach Stopframe even employees using satan worshipping to get Clay. At one point Clay takes Orel on a hunting trip and gets plastered and shoots his own son. He refuses and is unable to take Orel to the hospital when he sobbers up the next morning he blames Orel. Any trust me I'm only hitting the highlights of how dark the show really is...at one point Adult Swim which is pretty liberal even pulled the show for how dark it got. But really it is one of the best written animated shows ever. |

Star Trek Animated. It was on a par with the live action series, and surpassed it for consistency.
New Captain Scarlet was an epic, mature series that never found an audience. I'm pretty sure it's never even been screened in the US, meaning many animation fans are missing a stunning show.

I'll say "Beast Wars", if only for the episode "Code of Hero", because it's the best single episode of any cartoon, ever.

Virtually anything in the DC universe that involves the work of Paul Dini and/or Bruce Timm (Batman: TAS, Batman Beyond, Adventures of Superman, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Green Lantern).
Avatar: The Last Airbender and its' sequel, The Legend of Korra. Venture Brothers is comedic gold if your sense of humor runs in that direction. |
