I respect your opinion, but I don't get it. It's the same skills being used right? I skated for years, mostly street, some ramp and half pipe. When I would compete in street competitions, they never took us out on the street, it was always a closed course/skate park.
I'll admit it's not as much fun as real street skating, but it's still the same skills bring used. For competition, it's just not practical to go out on location. THAT IS EPIC!

I'm not denying that they aren't athletes though, I just don't like the commercialization of it. When I watch the events I just feel like the freedom of it is deadened when I watch them go for technical merit and not just flow through the obstacles as they come. When it's all just sitting there and you watch a couple guys run through it before you do, how in the moment is it really?
I also don't deny that aspect of it as a sport unto itself, whatever you want to call it. I was on the professional video game world tour, and I had to laugh when they called us cyberathletes, so if that can be considered an athlete in any way, these guys definitely are. |

Ok, I'm seriously jealous now. And I don't usually envy. How cool is that shit. |

The weird thing about it is, with the first person shooter circuit at least, I couldn't get back into it anymore if I wanted to, hand eye coordination really drops as you get older, and I could already tell towards the end I was losing a step, and by step I mean microseconds, and in that sport, microseconds were win or lose. |

My 2 year old does it through the house. I sometimes do a version too, jumping over trucks and Legos, and shit. You ever step on a sharp ass little Lego piece in the middle of the night, bare footed? It will make you wish you had ran up the wall instead.
