Okay first off this is in no way whatsoever something I want to get out of hand or turn ugly. I just want to see what the majority of the "contributing" tankers feel about the site changes.
It's no secret that I miss the GD in the sidebar, and while I know there are some tankers that may prefer it the way it is now, I just want to get a poll going to see who prefers what and your reasoning for it. Don't get me wrong I know we can just click on new posts or we can search for it in the forums, but for me personally it's just not as much fun that way. Call it lazy, call it what you will, but it's just my preference. I'm sure many of you have noticed that a good handfull of some of the regular contributors have posted less and or visited less frequently. I guess I just feel I would rather see a thread (on the sidebar) that has to do with something someone might be going through or something great that happened to them...etc. Then see a bunch of sightings threads for random states that alot of us don't live in. I just feel that alot of what kept me coming back to the tank everyday is slowly going away and it's kinda sad...for me anyway!

on one hand, the new site changes have "cleaned up" the Tank. being that the site has such influence and power, i can see how the show runners are trying to keep certain "riff-raff" off the home page. after all, HissTank is in the business of staying in good graces with the GI Joe brand and the folks at Hasbro. no secret there.
on the other hand, the very same folks and "riff-raff" that have helped make this site what is is - a haven for GI Joe collectors/enthusiasts/merchants - are now being swept under the rug and off the front page. i understand the outcry. so Tankers are falling off. back to lurking. less participation. less threads with stuff other than GI Joe to talk about. some are digging the new angle, some are pissing on it, and others are adapting. i'd have to say i'm adapting. i set my HissTank home page to "new posts" and go there instead of the index. problem solved. many other prominent Tankers have left the Tank because apparently it "sucks" now compared to before. i'd have to say that i was away from the Tank for a while for that same reason. my only real motive left to Tank is the MU thread. in all honesty, if that thread wasn't around, i would probably be on here less too. my personal verdict: the Tank does kind of suck now. |

I can't disagree. Things are much different...more quiet...more BORING now than when I joined...and that was only in May!
Is this apparent slowdown REALLY because of the "GD topics not on the sidebar" thing??? Edit: I didn't vote in the poll, because there isn't a "I don't care either way" choice! |

Well, for me the tank always has been the "new posts" page. It's the easiest and most comfortable way to see whats going on on the tank. Clicking new posts let's you see the entire forums at a glance. In fact, ever since I joined the tank, the only time I go to the home page is to see the front page news articles.
Many forum sites don't have the "new posts" feature, and this makes it very hard to get an overview of the action. You have to click on each subforum separately, which only provides a limited view of the current discussions.

I just hit the "new posts" button at the top. always have. I honestly didn't even know there was a sidebar before all the complaining.
I guess most people used that instead. It's noticeable. Waaay noticeable. The 'tank has gotten boring lately. But really, what justifiable argument points can we make to get them to return it to the way it was. Think about it. Short of "I miss the bs threads" I can't think of any, and that doesn't really hold any water.

90% of the time I just do the "new posts" thing aswell. to be honest, I didn't know there was a change outside of the attatchments thing in the custom forum. That was a PITA, however I've finally gotten the hang of it. So no, I think the 'tank is fine...it's me I'm worried about. :/

I like it right now. It's been nice to see more customs popping up. I could see wanting GD threads to show there but really they have not gone anywhere and seem more exclusive now. Before there were times when you wondered if you were even on a toy site. Shooting the shit is fun but I really like how it's got more toy oriented posts. I rather see more customs and news than hear how someone got caught with their pants down in a barn.
So I guess I like it as it is. It's nice that the BST thread doesn't clutter up the side bar now. That was a big contributor of it being a mess. It's got a bit more organization now. Here's an example of the way it looked sometimes: |
