As some of you may know, I just sold EVERYTHING I own on ebay.
A week later I figure all is cool , I'm kinda happy with what I got and on and on. TODAY, I get an email from a guy who's saying I lied in the auction and that he's leaving negative feedback unless I refund him. I apologize and tell him that I didn't lie and everything was clearly stated in the item description I told him I'll refund him the difference against my ebay fees for his item when I receive the return in the mail.I honestly didn't think of anything passed that. Inconvenient, sure. but relatively easy. I get to Bullshitting w a buddy of mine about the whole ordeal and he starts telling me paypal horror stories. Like, SCARY shit. Locking funds, lost money, things that happened to people we know. Yadda Yadda. I'm feeling pretty good because soon as everyone paid I had the funds transferred to my bank account... Then he tells me that paypal can raid that if they so choose if I have one on file. That one got to me and he could tell too, because he actually put me on the phone with a friend of ours that it's happened to... Now, I've heard of people winning things on ebay, filing a dispute, winning, getting their money back and sending a false item back to the seller claiming they lied...don't want that to happen to me, either. So, here's what I did: I changed my bank account and debit card numbers with my bank and all of my credit cards that were on paypal have been issued new numbers. Is that enough to make sure this asshole can't steal from me? I have no problem fighting him, but I've heard too much negative things about paypal to roll the dice on them getting this right...So I'm trying to have all my bases covered so even in the worst case scenario there's nothing either this punk, ebay, or paypal can do. Today, hopefully, we discuss. Tomorrow, I go to war : ) Any advice?

PayPal refunds are normally from non-delivery.
If it's a claim of authenticity then he has to produce paper work done by an expert that he has to hire to state to PayPal that the items are fake.

Paypal doesn't touch my primary bank account. They get their own dedicated account (at a totally separate bank) that I keep $5 in. Every time I sell something the funds get immediately withdrawn, and transferred. I have never had any issues, but I don't take chances.
It does sound like that guy is trying to eff you though. However, it appears as if you've covered your bases pretty well, and I hope everything gets squared away. |

If you're that concerned, changing your cards is the best idea. You can even get a prepaid credit card to link your PayPal account with. This way, you're not screwing with your own personal funds. If you win something online, simply add money to the prepaid from your other account then pay as you would normally.
Now generally speaking, I've been dealing with PayPal for years and have had only one incident where they had to move money around. But it was a large sum of money and this indeed gave me some concern. When you file a claim, they have procedures that they have to go through to ensure that BOTH parties are covered. During this transaction, neither the buyer or the seller holds the money. PayPal does. PayPal then assesses the situation and makes a decision. But this can take up to 30 days (and usually does). Dispute resolution is pretty much a "he said/she said" game. The person with the most evidence in their favor wins. In my case, the seller never shipped the item and wouldn't respond to my messages. I showed them my winning purchase and also the messages I sent prior to filing the claim. PayPal then also tried to contact the seller. But they usually do this about once a week. When the received no response, I was rewarded the money I spent. But it didn't go directly back into my bank account. It held in limbo in my PayPal account until I requested to have the funds transferred. If you cannot have your money deposited into your account, then they send you a check (another two weeks).

I removed my checking account from PayPal because of **** like this possibly happening to me, too. I like the other poster's idea of creating a whole new account at a different bank just for PayPal transactions.
