Today went to the mall for shopping. My son kept saying "daddy, I want to go to the toy store." Well naturally I think Toys R Us, Target or Wal-Mart. After going to a Gamestop, FYE and Lids (hat store) those were the only stores left at this mall that I've been going to since like 5 that interest me anymore.
This mall used to have a KB Toys, but with KB out of business there is no toy store for kids. Sure it was fun to "browse" the toy section at FYE, but I am not going to pay $17.99 for a wrestling figure when everyone else has them for $9.99. I wish shopping malls would get a toy store back. Why can't some Mom & Pop toy store open up? I would love to be able to walk into a mall sometime and go into an Actual Toy Store and not W-M toy aisle. With the indoor malls becoming "dead malls", I think they should reach out and try and figure out a way to get a toy store back inside the mall. |

i can't agree more with you ! even up here you can't go into a mall and go to a "toystore", all they have are the toy isles in the department store type places and those are really lackluster !
we used to have this huge toystore with massive joe and hotwheels isles called, toys and wheels, and just like kb toys it went under leaving a huge void in the mall shopping experience. |

Mom n Pops charge just as bad. Annapolis had this small toy store with $12+ RoC figures. The PTE stuff ran about 50% more than Big Lots prices.

You are never going to find a Toy Store in a mall that can compete with Wal-Mart. The Mall simply charges way too much for rent, plus Small Toy Stores do not get the bulk discount on product that Wal-Mart does, so actually they are paying as much or more than Wal-Marts retail prices just to get inventory, so they HAVE To charge more.
Sure it would be great to see Toy Stores in the Malls again, but we would actually have to BUY Toys there to keep them in business.

Trust me, I am feeling the pain. I use to go to alot of local toy shoppes, vintage or used. Personally, I like this idea, but again, its not profitable enough. I miss checking out the store window displays and going "yeah, that's what I want to build for my dio" Nowadays, we are only going to get Walmart, Target and TRU. Of coarse Big Lots and Dollar General carry some decent stuff, its part and parcel. My only saving grace has been flea markets. You can find some great deals and if you go often enough, make some cool friends and get some really good deals.

Man, KB Toys was great. I remember that they used to have all sorts of discontinued / discount price stuff.

i dont bother goigt o malls...over priced junk, rude people, crappy parking and unless you're a chick (most malls are nothing but clothing, candle and linegries stores anyways) theres no reason to go to a mall.

we have some m&p shops here and they charge crazy prices at times, but they do have some hard to find things and they are willing trade down here.
