I was happy when they put a Garfields (bar) in my Mall, I could drink beer and then go Joe shopping. But then i was sad when they closed the KB Toys - now I just drink.

The Toys R Us holiday stores at the malls last year were used as a test to see how they would do in that market to replace the KB Toys locations.
I don't know if they have finalized any plans to set up permanent locations in malls, but I'm sure that they will try it out again this holiday season.

The Mall of America used to have I recall when they first opened at least 3 toy stores in it. FAO, KB, and another I can't recall now. They also used to have a descent couple of electronic/video stores to go to for movies and stuff.
My Dad used to take us there and it was fun as I got to go around the mall for three hours or so and felt I still hadn't checked everything out. I hadn't gone there here in I'd say about 5 years, but a friend of mine went recently and told me there are NO toy stores now and NO electronic stores save for GameStop. The biggest mall in the U.S.A. (at least from what is stated) and they have now no reason at all for me to go there anymore at all. Now it really is just one big tourist attraction full of stores I'd normally never shop at (clothing, jewelry, etc) and I've read they're going to expand the thing even further with an ice skating rink and other stuff. O_o I so miss the malls of old as mentioned on here. Toy stores were nice to look through, but I really miss the days when you had other stores then Best Buy in malls for movie purchases as well the occasional toy not found in regular toy stores. Suncoast, Media Play, Sam Goody...all gone from malls. Blah. |

Today went to the mall for shopping. My son kept saying "daddy, I want to go to the toy store." Well naturally I think Toys R Us, Target or Wal-Mart. After going to a Gamestop, FYE and Lids (hat store) those were the only stores left at this mall that I've been going to since like 5 that interest me anymore.
This mall used to have a KB Toys, but with KB out of business there is no toy store for kids. Sure it was fun to "browse" the toy section at FYE, but I am not going to pay $17.99 for a wrestling figure when everyone else has them for $9.99.

I remember getting my WCW Galoob figures from KB etc. I have a lot of good memories with malls. Going to movies on the weekend with friends, walking around different malls at Christmas and looking at the cool displays. As much as it saddens me that my favorite department stores are gone, it also sucks to think one day shopping malls will be torn down and be a memory. Yesterday we had a birthday party to go to and had two hours to kill. There is a mall about 15 minutes from our house. I told my wife lets go to the mall. She asked "why?" I said lets just walk around. Maybe I am the only one, but to me it is fun to go to the mall and just walk around. We bought my son a Justice League Unlimited DVD which he was excited about. Sorry for the long post, but I hate to think one day shopping malls will be a thing of the past. I would much rather walk into a store a pick up and item and look at it and buy it then sit in front of a computer and look at a stock photo, and wait for it to be shipped only to have the box be crushed. |

Not to get off my original topic, but I really enjoy looking at the "dead malls" site. I have grown up with shopping malls in my veins. My mom loved to go shopping, so my Dad and i would get dragged to one weekley. As a kid I liked going to Spencers, KB Toys, arcades within a mall, video game stores.

My new Wal-Mart is actually in/attached to Manassas Mall. And to be honest it will be the only thing to save the mall in our town.

I do miss the old days of having toy stores in the mall. I remember when Woolworth's and TRU were common place in the mall and I loved that sh!t! There is the Lakewood Mall which is not too far from me and they have a Target inside of it...which is pretty cool
