Most of my grocery list is stuff on sale. Digital coupons...I resisted those because I hate the extra effort, since you already have to remember to use a store card. Going online and "clipping" coupons is irritating, but it does save money.
I used to buy store potato salad pre-inflation and pre-pandemic. Now I make my own...I had before, but now always. Broadcast tv, yeah. I live in an area where I get duplicates of some networks. I'm sure they'd love to get rid of the requirement of broadcasting, though. |

I use an electric razor to shave. I don't need to be completely clean shaven... I'm ok with a little scruff.
I cut my own hair, too. Well, my wife does it. I have a pair of professional electric clippers and she usually cuts my hair with those, using the highest numbered attachment, so it's short, but not THAT short. And then I just let it grow out until it reaches my shoulders and cut it again.

i use a bunch of apps. in order of most used to least used, but still great:
there's one i use that gives cash back on gas fill ups. it shows a map of participating locations and the amount of cash back. if people use my shared code they get extra on their first couple of fills and i get a kickback for them joining. so when they then share their code, their new person gets a extra on their first couple of fills and then they get a kick back for their new person. you also can use it as some restaurants and convenience stores (i havent used it at these places yet) i have like 200 bucks saved up right now because im too lazy to cut the check. im getting around 11c per gallon back. it's called UPSIDE and my code is NA8BS i use RAKUTEN and have it installed on my browser. every online store that uses it it throws a notification. generally it's .3-3% cash back but it's something. it automatically sends checks, and i've had as high as 60 bucks returned. if you travel expedia and travelocity use rakuten cash back; even target, ebay and walmart. one of the perks with walmart is i would order my entire grocery cart then use rakuten, and pick it up. there are categories where cashback is offered or not. i just click the button and activate it. just like upside if you refer people you get money, right now it's 30 bucks. here's my referral link: Rakuten: Shop. Get Cash Back. Repeat. there's Honey, but rakuten doesnt work at the same time as honey and i typically dont use it. it has neat things but i'm a man of routine and it's not in it. then there's FETCH which right now is only connected to my amazon and walmart accounts so for every purchase it scans their digital receipts and gives me points for them that can be turned into different giftcards. amazon being one of them. you also can scan your physical receipts from other stores and it gives points for them too. pretty much every receipt scan gives you points; and the giftcards are pretty easily obtainable. it even connects to some games to play to earn more points to get giftcards quicker - my wife does that, i dont(lazy). my referral code is EDCUND, and you'd get 1000 extra points for using it and i'd get 1000 extra points out of it. ibotta is a more popular version of fetch but i found it frustrating. if there's an update to it where i dont have to do anything but click "scan for receipts" like i can for fetch maybe i'll go back. i found that it was an app for coupons on shit that you didnt need or want and were chasing them down for cash back more than anything that actually benefitted you. like, some rando vegan hotdogs and mixed nuts (of nuts you've never heard of before). the perk of these last 3 things is you can double dip on your receipts so something i bought using rakuten i can use the same receipt for fetch. i think even gas receipts work on fetch, but again, too lazy to really pursue that avenue (i keep my gas receipts in my truck just in case i have to scan them for upside) so then, when/if you join, then do what i did and refer your wife/girlfriend/significant other to these two things and it's a quick extra bump to your cashback. there's an entire part of town i completely avoid going to because the city (who blames the dot, but it's obviously very much a lie) decided to cut the main road that is the center of town and connects both sides of it from 4 lanes to 2 lanes to "prevent accidents" except that it has caused more of them (not just on that one, but also on the two alternate routes that are not in the center of town) and add paid parking to the center of town. i have saved quite a lot of money not participating there. quite a few restaurants and boutique shopping (that dont seem to last) that i am saving money not visiting. so you can say in a way, i'm being frugal through spite. SES,
Have not been a fan of modern blades or their price. I still used old school Gillette sensor but they have become more difficult to find. Could not get into the Machs. Now I buy what is on sale at Costco. You mentioned a bit of a shift/change in shaving with the safety blades. I read up on it some more (angle, pressure etc.,). How much of a change is it? I do not want to be known as the guy with the gash/scarface because of my frugality lol But I am def down to change especially at this price point! Side note: tried straight edge shave from a barber twice. Both times I felt like I was going to have my throat slashed haha (too many mob movies). One time he went against the grain and it ruined my skin. That was another thing I read on safety blade, going with your grain. I shave down my face and neck. A big change for myself regarding frugality is weighing food. Knowing how many calories I require to maintain current weight; and then weighing food to meet that. Not over eating/wasting I even weigh everyone of my cats meals. Frozen over fresh fruit/veggies would be another one. Nothing beats fresh, but frozen has improved tenfold since the squared carrots/peas mix etc. Plus, with frozen there is no waste/throwing out because it spoiled. |

Another way I am frugal is I typically buy what is on sale.
I do not follow the crowd in that sense: I have an old phone; never had AirPods; never owned a single iPod, ever. Still use my original 2006 PlayStation 3. I am outdated in that sense but do not spend on the newest thing. Have never owned or leased new vehicle. Between 2000-2023 I have spent less than 10000 on vehicles. I have a lot of clothing but buy on sale, Winners, and take care of my stuff. Edit: meant to say there was a time I purchased secondhand. It was an adventure and so cool when you find a diamond in the rough! Buy last year model shoes etc. I sold shoes so know what is what and the mark ups. Watch reviews and buy what was good a year or two ago. Last edited by Rooted; 03-01-2024 at 04:01 PM.. |
