Anyone else tried other selling platforms like ebid or Bonanza?

I have not, but don't sell a lot. Ebay does suck, though

Never tried either of those. I have looked into Mercari, but their user interface leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not popular enough to go anywhere with WhatNot.

I mostly buy from eBay. If I want to sell something I usually do so at local collectibles shops & trading spots.

Thanks for the input, guys. Yeah, seems like ebay blows for sellers unless you're selling ridiculously in-demand stuff or sell in high volumes. My brother has been selling his collection on there, and listing at reasonable/rational prices. He doesn't expect to make money, but he would naturally like to not lose money on auctions, but with the high cost of shipping, ebay's ridiculous fees make it really hard to price reasonably.
He had to cancel a couple of transactions a few months back because his toddler got into the stuff he had listed and tore it up. Apparently if you do that, ebay brands you a "substandard seller" and raises your selling fees, just making it harder to price reasonably. It doesn't matter how good your feedback is/how satisfied buyers are with you or how long your track-record of delivering quality is. It's like ebay wants to push the small-timers just getting rid of their stuff away from selling there. Which is stupid because people selling the shit they no longer want is what built ebay. If I don't hear much positive about other sites, I'll advise him to keep selling his shit there because at least it's a known evil (lol). Me personally though, I won't use 'em for selling or buying now. Fuck 'em.

Wow, the timing of this thread couldn't have been any better. I've just started selling my collection on eBay. There is quite the learning curve. My eyes popped out of their sockets after seeing how high the fees are. And there are limits on how many items one can list when starting out. At this rate, it'll take forever to get everything sold off.

@Smokebellew, unfortunately, the traffic is really what's going to make or break your experience. There are of course other means of selling your stuff, but none of them are going to bring the sheer amount of exposure eBay does. Taking this into consideration, the fees are "worth it". They still suck though, especially given the last rate increase that hit a year or so ago.
Also, I feel where your brother is- those are called "defects" in eBay's terminology, and they're not exactly forthcoming about what counts as a defect, nor do they let you know when you're about to go over the allowed number of them. Back when I was using eBay as a sole source of income, I had three separate buyers in the course of a year ghost on payment. Smart guy that I am, I figured I'd just cancel rather than hassle with the UPI cases. That bit me right in the ass though, because I awoke one morning to a message informing me of a 50% rate increase. What's more is that each defect hangs on to your account for a year. Fucking extortion. @ AWOL: Depending on what you've got, this place is a much more hassle-free way to get things gone, if you're patient and beat the going rate on eBay. Beating that average is going to be key, though. A lot of guys that frequently bump their BSTs here have yet to figure that out, some of them have had the same stuff listed about as long as I've been coming to the 'tank.
